COVID-19

Got my 2nd booster on Tuesday (and 4th Moderna shot). No side effects other than the standard sore shoulder for a couple of days.

I have a theory that Omicron took off slow and took awhile to peak here in Korea because we were too good at mitigating the virus previously. All the masks and culture of social distancing was too effective. It was a much slower burn than elsewhere which prolonged things.

That appears to be the case here in Vermont as well. For the last five weeks, Vermont has led the nation in new cases per hundred thousand people after being panacea for the entire pandemic.

I’m surprised that’s all that happened. My household WiFi really improved.

Well, I got covid. Time elapsed between starting to travel back to DC and getting it was less than 3 weeks. After avoiding it for 26 months.

It sucks. I am fully vaccinated with 2 boosters. Basically felt on the border of a bad cold and a flu. 3 days of high temps. Time from first symptoms to feeling pretty darn bad was 24 hours. I’m on day 8 and am just now starting to feel somewhat normal. I’m still super fatigued, coughing a lot and go in and out of brain fog. Which makes it hard to work.

Wow, way more than what Mark or I had. Hope you get back to 100% soon.

Sorry das, that really sucks. I’ve managed to avoid it as well, as far as I know, but I have a series of business trips coming up that makes me think my days are numbered. Reminds me of being a kid after hanging out in the back of the dodgeball crowd and realizing the ranks have thinned considerably.

I think most will get it eventually, but thanks to the vaccine we’ll stay out of hospitals and cemeteries.

1 sister and 3 nieces have it. Similar symptoms but no fever.

I also have a friend here in Houston that has it currently. She said this strain seems to be stronger than the last one.

I hope you and others are feeing better soon.

And Jim is probably right we are all going to get it, the vaccine just makes it easily managed.

If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge COVID.

I’m pretty sure I haven’t had it, I’ve certainly never tested positive for it, but I am of this same mind.

I am off to Blighty next week for a wedding. I have a new supply of KN95 masks for the flights, but the chances of me coming away from a large wedding without being exposed are pretty much zero. Just hope the vaccine shots can hold it at bay so that I don’t test positive before I get my pre-flight test to come back.

Just spent 10 days in California and Oregon. Made it back to Seoul with two negative tests in 3 days. Still haven’t ā€œofficiallyā€ has COVID.

Flying SingaporeAir to Manchester which is convenient for a number of reasons - not least of which being that I get to attend Crystal Palace playing at Everton next Thursday.

Also, masks required on board. I’m almost hoping there’s a passenger meltdown over it where they prick on about their rights and HIPAA and shit, only to be told your under Singapore jurisdiction now, fuckface.

I will add the ā€œfuckfaceā€ if the cabin crew are to polite to do it themselves.

Singapore is the top of the heap.

I’m in basic economy. I’m interested to see how it goes. One of the perks I’ve seen so far is that a vegetarian has eleventy food options to pre- order - I’ve opted for the curry - while everyone else gets to choose between a burger or chicken tenders…if they’re lucky.

Oh. Sorry to hear that. Still, they are far better than just about any other airline out there.

Standard economy is pretty solid. They’re a little stingy with the booze, which probably isn’t a bad thing, but otherwise service is impeccable.

I appreciated their strictness when applying the rules regarding iDevice usage, seat backs and window shades. Everyone wore a mask but there were a couple of round eyes wearing them below their nose, which is just so childish.

I thought Qatar was. I was going to fly Qantas to Australia in August but found a Qatar flight that has those sleep in bed ā€œseatsā€ so I chose that. I’m really looking forward to it. The potential downside is now my wife is going to expect to fly like this every time for any long flight. Which is absolutely a nonstarter. My gazillion frequent flyer miles are the only thing making this possible this time.

Those of you who have had Covid (thankfully it’s been pretty mild over the past 5 days or so), once you were in the clear what did you do to disinfect your house (and autos?) prior to other people entering it?

Nothing
