College Basketball 24-25

And now a 6 point loss. Saved 2 timeouts, though.

Wow.
The Longhorns really shit the bed on that one.

Well, that was pathetic.

He can take them to the next job

American University loses to Mount St. Mary’s in their First Four game. The Eagles were favored going in, but lost their best player Matt Rogers to knee injury five minutes into the first half (Rogers is a finalist for the Lou Henson Award which is given to the top mid major player in college basketball). Sumbitch.

Rogers showed great toughness today. I hate that he got hurt and missed the opportunity to play fully in that game.

I’m gutted for him. By all accounts, a great person and teammate. Turned down several “life changing” NIL offers to stay at AU because of the culture being built there and wanting to finish out his career with the guys who came into the program with him. It was a hell of an effort to come back into the game after injuring his knee and would’ve loved to see him play in the national spotlight against Duke (especially healthy), but wasn’t meant to be. Not sure whether he’s an NBA level player. Hopefully, he gets a chance.

That’s a bummer for Rogers. I didn’t know there was a Lou Henson award. That dude had a sweet combover. Also a hell of a coach at Illinois and New Mexico.

College basketball has some of the all-time great combovers…Henson, Denny Crum, Gene Keady. Combover HOFers.

Great tribute to Greg Gumble from Ernie and the guys to kick the Tournament off.

That '89 Illinois team, the “Positionless Clones” - with Kendall Gill, Nick Anderson, Marcus Liberty, Kenny Battle etc - is still one of my favorite college teams, and one of the best that didn’t win the Tourney

Steve Bardo was my favorite. I was still in St Louis in '89 and Illinois is almost as popular as Missouri is in the St Louis metro area which has a large population in Illinois. Also, the black athletes in the St Louis area would choose Illinois, Notre Dame or Iowa over U of Missouri.

I know Norm Stewart would try to recruit the area but for some reason he had alienated some of the big time high school coaches and they would always discourage their athletes from attending there. Almost all of the black basketball players at Missouri during Stewarts tenure were from the KC area, a few from the rest of the state and many from out of state. I can not recall one guy from a St Louis high school that went there.

I think Billy Tubbs deserves a spot in that HOF.

That OU team with Mookie Blaylock and Stacey King (and the Syracuse team that lost to Indiana) are also on the list of “best teams I saw that didn’t win it all”

I can’t give any props to Syracuse. I hate them and Jim Boeheim. I thought that OU team in '88 was going to win it all. They beat Kansas both times they faced them in the regular season but not in the championship game. Larry Brown was a pretty good coach.

#9 Creighton up big on #8 Louisville.

…and Danny Manning was a pretty good player.

He’s one of the “what would he have been” stories from back when today’s “minor” injuries were pretty much career-altering
