He is projected as a late first round draft pick.
Houston goes against Baylor at Waco @9:00
Texas Tech beats Arizona State 85-57 in Tempe. A close four point game at half became a blowout with Tech scoring 49 in the second half.
Tech secures the #2 seed in the Big XII tournament and perhaps a #3 in the NCAA.
He’s a player
His outside shooting could stand to improve, but there are NBA coaches that can do that. He plays through contact well, and I think that’s a good predictor.
He strikes me as a guy who won’t test well at the Combine, gets drafted in the late 1st or early 2nd, and then has a 15+ year NBA career.
Had a similar discussion about PJ Tucker earlier today.
I think Tucker is a good comparison. He could always rebound and score inside, especially for a small forward. And over the years he developed a dependable mid-range jumper.
He went to the G-league elite camp in 2023 and earned an invite to the combine. Thanks to NIL, he stayed in school. His physicality has to improve. He looks for fouls rather than finishing hard through contact at times and gets frustrated easily.
He has really improved as a passer and leads Auburn in assist this year. Outside shooting has improved over his time at Auburn.
I am not sure his feet are quick enough for the NBA to be a starter but he can make a career as a role player for sure.
Baylor takes a 3 point lead into the half.
Barring a miracle run in the SEC tournament, the Terry era at UT ended tonight.
I heard something about Quin Snyder. I sure hope not.
Post-player PJ Tucker (Big12 POY) got drafted in the 2rd and spent 3 years or so overseas. Came back slimmed down with a 3pt shot and a madman focus on defense…now it’s 15+ NBA years later
Coogs get challenged but prevail in the end 65-61.
Coogs love to make games close.
Enjoying the small conference tourney finals. Depending on the matchup, High Point could win a 1st round game.
eta: interesting fact nugget I just saw: Omaha is guaranteed a spot in the Tourney regardless of whether they beat St. Thomas of Minnesota in the Summit Conference final or not. St. Thomas was kicked out of DIII for being too good, and jumped straight to DI, and are ineligible for the Tourney until next season.
In May 2019, the MIAC expelled St. Thomas from the league, due to concerns about “athletic competitive parity.” As Sports Illustrated put it, “St. Thomas is just too good at sports for the rest of the MIAC,” which was causing other teams to consider abandoning the league and threatening its continued existence.
I like the Big XII tournament format. All 16 teams qualify, but the top four get a first and second round bye while seeds five through 8 get a first round bye.
Auburn lost two games and dropped two spots in the polls to 3. Duke is now #1 Houston is #2. St John’s is #6 (5th in the coaches’ poll) that Pitino guy seems like he might know a little about coaching.
Texas Tech remains at #9 with a chance at a #2 seed in the NCAA. They will play Thursday in the Big XII quarterfinals.
Yet, Auburn is still likely the top overall seed in the tournament because of their resume’.
Most wins in Quad 1 games (quad 2 losses)
Auburn 16-4 (0)
Michigan State 12-4 (1)
Alabama 11-7 (0)
Houston 10-3 (1)
Tennessee 10-6 (0)
Kentucky 10-9 (1)
Total Quad 1+2 record
Auburn 21-4
Houston 18-4
Alabama 18-7
Michigan St 17-5
Florida 17-4
I think Michigan State may be the best team no one is talking about.
If you want to waste a few hours, there is a site (BracketMatrix) that gives a bracket based on the aggregation of about 87 brackets on the internet.
