College basketball 2021

Power 5 is a football thing. Not a basketball thing.

Good point. Letā€™s just say an elite basketball conference, then.

They both vastly overblow the quality of the Big 10 though.

Not sure how you have the Big 12 on top and the SEC on the bottom, but ok.

Goddamn Orange Cows!

Hopefully Mark Adams will get the HC job at Tech and weā€™ll see another Final Four.

Youā€™re right, HH, they should be above the Big10

eta: looking back at college ball, itā€™s amazing how the Big East fell to pieces. espn did a solid 30-for30 on it.

So it was not Beard after all; it was Adams. You sound like the Tech AD who spun this as Tech moving in a different direction.

I watched Beardā€™s PC at UT today. Wow.

Adams was the defensive specialist. The 'No Middle" defense is his creation. He absolutely deserves a shot and wants to stay in Lubbock.

Beard was great at his PC in Lubbock at his signing.

When attendance to college sporting events is unrestricted again, I expect Tech fans will outnumber Longhorn fans at games in Austin. Just like always.

Poor you. You are so hurt. Beard chose Texas. How dare he? I knew a lot of Tech grads during my three years in Lubbock. You are very like them.

PS I know who Adams is. You also said Beard wanted to stay in Lubbock.

Jim, I have met many UT grads during my many years in Texas. You are very much like them.

I think Iā€™m an alright guy

We all think that.

only because you havenā€™t met me

No doubt.

Most storied basketball program in Texas, BY FAR, is playing in the final four tomorrow. Time to focus on that. Go Coogsā€¦ although Iā€™m not liking our chances.

Thatā€™s not at all what I said. Here is what I actually said:

You are as arrogant as every T-Sipper Iā€™ve ever known who thinks the universe revolves around a burnt orange cow. You are right about Tech fans, though. We do carry a chip on our shoulders.

Beard took almost his entire staff except Adams, who is still on the Tech payroll. Make of that what you will. One thing at which Beard has been superb is recruiting transfers and developing late bloomers. I wonder if heā€™ll keep that same approach at UT where he will presumably have more advantage in High School recruiting.

I liked this, according to one of Beardā€™s friends heā€™s obsessed with winning championships, ā€œheā€™d go to North Dakota State if he thought heā€™d win thereā€

Hope Tech keeps the program up and UT does what they should do. BigXII hoops have been fun the past few years.

Tex, through all of this, I have said nothing derogatory about Tech. Nothing like ā€œOrange Cows,ā€ which you have said at least twice now. I also have said nothing derogatory about you personally; I do not know you, I have never met you, and I appreciate and value your comments on this board. The closest I came was to say you were living in a fantasy world for believing Beard would turn down a UT offer. Maybe you merely were hoping.

You call Texas fans arrogant. Yes, some are. Am I one of the arrogant ones? Maybe some times I am, but not usually. I do not talk smack before games, and I do not gloat or rub it in when we win. I both played and coached and think I understand the deep emotional component of athletic competition. I certainly have personal experience with the pain of losing, which I try to remember. Losing a big game and losing a beloved coach to a rival school, especially a hated one, are somewhat similar.

I also had an almost-daily experience with Tech fans for three years living in Lubbock and hanging out with my fellow law students. Those Tech fans with whom I associated hated Texas more than they loved Tech. They cheered a Texas loss against Boston College-twice because UT missed two FGs at the very end of the game. They stood and cheered Earl Campbellā€™s injury when he was unable to get up off the field in Lubbock. They asserted unequivocally, when Tech had a good team or beat UT in something, Tech was better than Texas and was a big rival for UT. The Tech fans I encountered had more than a ā€œchip on the shoulder.ā€ They had a huge inferiority complex about Texas and took every opportunity to ridicule or to disparage the school, its teams, and its fans. Like you did.

Chris Beard is a UT grad. He coached at UT. He loves the school, as do I. He has been waiting for UT to offer. He accepted the job on the same morning he received the offer and not because of money. He refused a lifetime contact offered by Tech in recent months. He refused to allow the Tech AD to make a counteroffer after Texas offered. He talked eloquently in his PC about his wonderful time at Tech, his love for the Tech players, and his respect for the Tech AD and other members of the Tech administration family. He said nothing but great things about your school and his experiences there, but he made it perfectly clear Texas is where he wants to be. He thinks, as do I, the University of Texas offered him a better opportunity and a better job.

Sorry you are hurt enough about this to lash out. Nothing I say can or will change your hurt feelings, and I am going to say nothing more about it. Iā€™ll simply refer you to something HH-who has no love for UT and who last I heard roots for the Coogs-said last week: this move from Tech to UT is a step up for Beard. I am glad Chris Beard thinks so too.

Hook ā€˜em.

I agree with about the history and Iā€™m looking forward to this game as well. I have yet to see Gonzaga, but Iā€™ve seen Baylor a number of times. They are really really good, but they are certainly beatable.

Didnā€™t UTEP, under a different name, win a title, but other than that, has a Texas team won a hoops championship. I feel like I should know this answer, but donā€™t.

ETA: didnā€™t UT under Lemons/win an NIT when that was all there was?
