Auburn’s Cade Belyeu’s mom passed away this morning after a five month battle with cancer.
Opening day was tonight Cade has gone 3 for 4 with a single, double, a HR, a sb and three runs scored.
Here is the HR he hit - x.com
Kid comes from a good family. His father and uncle were a few years behind me in High School. They were great baseball players

That punch out at the end was a thing of beauty by my alma mater, and the fact that it happened at The Juice Box (which it will always be to me), home of your hard-charging Houston Astros Baseball Club against aggy, made me even more happy.
BEAR DOWN.

Holy shit. Mississippi St had Rafael Palmeiro and Will Clark together for three years? They’re numbers 1 and 2 on the Mississippi St all-time HR list.

You didn’t know this?
They also had Bobby Thigpen and Jeff Brantley pitching for them.

I must have known it at one time, because I clearly remember them being very good when Clark was there. But I guess the details have faded over time.

Now for that level of info you’ll have to talk to @JimR
'85, sounds right, but I really don’t know.
Yep.
Will Clark signed with Arlington while Palmeiro was a FA with designs of staying there.
He was pissed at Clark.

Didn’t see this elsewhere, and I know it’s 2025, but Rice has fired head baseball coach Jose Cruz, Jr. It’s unusual to make a change mid season, but he has just been a disaster.

There’s a thread in the first section, but to the content, that’s surprising mid-season and all.

Did Berkman become the interim?

That’s very unusual. I wonder why Rice felt that they needed to pull the trigger right now.

Nevermind, I see their pitching coach, Parker Bangs is the interim. Also, researching Lance, I learned he had little success in his three year stint and stepped down last year. I saw him in the dugout when the Owls played the Aggies earlier, so I assume he is an assistant.
Yep, Berkman is a volunteer assistant at Rice now:
