College Baseball 2021

Stay out of the loser’s bracket, and you won’t have to whine. Some folks would rather play back to back than sit around and get stiff. You said the Big 12 gave KSU an advantage. You have already teed up your excuse if you lose.

Once again, you’ve misquoted me. What I actually said:

I have added the emphasis to the word you obviously missed.

No excuse necessary, Tech always craters in the Conference tournament. Tadlock doesn’t give a shit and it shows. It pisses me off very year, but Tech usually does well in the NCAA.

There is the backup excuse. The coach does not care. You’re ready.

At least we didn’t get beat by the #8 seed.

Ah, there is the Tech fan I learned about in Lubbock. Poor Tech, hates Texas, always the victim, all the time.

Traditionally the loser’s bracket in any multi-day tournament that requires multiple games in one day, the loser’s bracket games always plays first/the most/back to back. Part of it is to keep teams from tanking one game for favorable matchups in the loser’s bracket, but also, as stated above, if you don’t want to play back to backs, win.

In every tournament I’ve ever arranged the brackets for (flag football, IM basketball, softball, beer pong), the loser’s bracket always plays a hard schedule for the above reasons. It’s a standard system/thought process.

Was the scheduling not announced in advance? And it was weather postponement that caused TT to have to play back to back games today?

And my memory could be faulty here but teams having to play back and back games in conference baseball tournaments isn’t all that unusual.

This was because of weather. TCU and Tech were originally scheduled to play yesterday.

Back-to-back games happen all the time in a four-team double elimination set. The team emerging from the loser’s bracket will play the team from the winner’s bracket in the final. If the loser’s bracket team wins the first game, they play another. In those cases, both teams are playing double headers.

My impression is it is weather related from the postponements yesterday.

I think they just said 22 walks in this game. It has gone on forever.

ETA: just said 18 combined walks. Not over yet either.

Over 270 combined pitches. The ball looked allergic to the strike zone.

Texas Tech plays two shitty games with the same shitty result: a 7-2 loss.
Kansas State pitched well and hit some long HRs to eliminate Tech. Tech could neither throw nor hit strikes in either game and continue their tradition of rolling over in the Big XII tournament.

Next up: #8 West Virginia vs #4 Oklahoma State. The loser will play #1 Texas in an elimination game.

Oklahoma State beats West Virginia 12-2.

Next up, a rematch between WVa and Texas.

Texas gets by West Virginia in a well pitched 3-2 game. The Longhorns will try to beat Oklahoma State twice tomorrow to get to the championship game on Sunday.

Thanks for all the updates. What website do you use for up-to-date box scores and brackets and such?

The Big XII Tournament site

ESPN+ has carried the games on the computer machine.

UT could not hit the mid to upper-90s fastball last night and struck out a gazillion times. WV also walked a gazillion Horns. The WV RFer made a great leaping catch at the wall to rob Antico of a grand slam which would have given UT a 5-0 lead. UT got only 3 hits, I think.

The tying and winning runs scored an a ballsy call: two on, down in the score to WV 1-2, 9-hole hitter up, Pierce put on the hit and run. The hitter executed a good RF swing, and grounded the ball sharply inside 1B and into the RF corner. Both runs scored.

UT left the offense in Austin this week apparently, and last night was a struggle against hard throwers who were all over the place. All walks and Ks into the 5th, and the first fair ball was a sac bunt bottom 5.

Good game despite the shaky WV command of the strike zone/walks and much better than watching the crapfest in Houston. I followed it on the GZ.

Kansas State beats TCU 5-2.

The two teams will attempt to fly in the face of all reason and wait until the Texas vs Oklahoma State is over before they play the decisive next game.

Texas will try to beat Oklahoma State to get the chance to play them again.

Upgraded my disney subscription to watch today’s game(s). It was an annoying process.

Top of the 5th. 2-1 Texas, but OSU has the bases loaded with one out. Two walks in the inning. Time for a new pitcher.
