Tennessee deprived of winning run in the bottom of the 9th after it was ruled that the runner’s slide into 2nd interfered with the throw to 1st on a failed DP attempt. They had runners on 1st and 3rd (or maybe bases loaded, doesn’t matter) with one out and hit a ground ball. Runner from 1st was forced at second, but the throw to 1st was high and pulled the 1B off the bag, so the winning run scored. After review, it was deemed that the slide into 2nd constituted interference, so the DP was awarded and the run was taken off the board. On to extra innings, and Alabama pulls off the upset in 11.
The #8 West Virginia Mountaineers upset the #1 Texas Longhorns 5-1 on a complete game from Jackson Wolf.
WVa will play the winner of OK vs OKS tomorrow evening and Texas will play the loser of that game at noon tomorrow.
138 pitches. That is why pro folks hate college coaches.
yikes
Sent him out in the 9th with a 4 run lead. Makes no sense to me, and I am not a pitch count guy.
I’d be totally ok if UT lost their next game and took it easy until the Regional.
Oklahoma State beats Oklahoma 9-5.
Tomorrow’s games:
#6 Baylor vs #7 Kansas State at 9:00 AM*
#1 Texas vs #5 Oklahoma at 12:30 PM*
#2 TCU vs #3 Texas Tech at 4:00 PM
#4 Oklahoma State vs #8 West Virginia at 7:30 PM
all times Central
*elimination game
If you watch the video, it wasn’t the slide, it was the runner’s punch to the fielder’s junk.
That’s interference? All these unwritten rules drive me crazy.
Oh no…
NCAA 8-4 Force-Play-Slide Rule
SECTION 4
Article c: Actions by a runner are illegal and interference shall be called if:
- The runner slides or runs out of the base line in the direction of the fielder;
- The runner uses a rolling or cross-body slide and either makes contact with or alters the play of a fielder;
- The runner’s raised leg makes contact higher than the fielder’s knee when in a standing position;
- The runner slashes or kicks the fielder with either leg; or
- The runner slaps or punches fielder in the junk.
This was recently revised from “the runner gives him the business”.
I thought that’s why you’re supposed to wear a cup.
Just one of the many reasons.
#7 Kansas State comes back from a 3-0 deficit with a bunch of dingers and eliminates #6 Baylor 9-4.
Baylor really needed a win to help their chances of getting into the NCAA tournament, so they may be done for the year. They remain “on the bubble”.
Kansas State keeps their NCAA dreams alive as they remain in the hunt for the automatic bid that goes to the Big XII tournament champion. They will play the loser of this afternoon’s TCU vs Texas Tech game.
Next up: #1 Texas vs #5 Oklahoma
The Horns beat OU 4-1 and the Sooners join Baylor on the wrong side of the bubble as far as chances of getting in to the NCAA tournament.
That’s all for today as bad weather hits OKC.
TCU and Texas Tech will start things off tomorrow at 10:00 AM.
TCU beats Texas Tech 7-2.
Tech will stay right where they are to play Kansas State in an elimination game. The Big XII decided to effectively give Kansas State an advantage by not having OKS vs WVa play next. I don’t know why.
Oh, please.
What? Do you think it was right to have the loser play directly after their first game when the other pairing was available? If so, why is this better?
It’s not a conspiracy against Tech, or for K. State, it’s just a stupid way to do it.
