College Baseball 2021

Bottom 4th.

Thanks for the link. Good stuff.

Up 2-0 early against Virginia.

That was a bomb by DBU 2B. Nice catch by the kid in CF too.

4th, not 5th? I’ll check again, but I thought I was careful.

ETA: yep, I am wrong. Bottom 4, not 5

DBU down to their last 3 outs trailing 5-2 after the Cavaliers took the lead for the first time in B7 on a grand slam.

UVA wins. Makes it 2 ACC teams in the CWS with a chance for a 3rd if Notre Dame beats Miss State.

DBU brought in a LHP with two on and two out up 2-1. The next two hitters were LH.

The result: infield single, grand slam.

MSU thumping ND.

Final: MSU 11 ND 7

The field is complete, and if Texifornia ever resurfaces, I’m sure he’ll post the CWS brackets.

So…

  • 3 SEC teams

  • 2 PAC-12 teams

  • 2 ACC teams

  • 1 BIG-12 team

We need to check the hospitals for Texifornia. He has not been here since the first Tech-Stanford game.

Just now coming up for air.
I may have misunderestimated the Pac 12, although I knew Stanford was a very good team. I will take solace in the fact that Jung is a Freshman and, indeed, there are no Seniors in Tech’s starting lineup and only one Junior.

The Longhorns, always my ninth favorite team to win a NCAA title (there are nine teams in the Big XII), look like the favorite with the untimely demise of Arkansas but Stanford’s starting pitching is superb and Arizona looks formidable.

Upsets happen in tournaments all the time, but UT has shown no weakness. Tennessee could give them some trouble, but I like UT in Bracket 2. I like Stanford in Bracket 1 on the strength of their starters.

There are rarely Seniors anywhere in college baseball these days because of the draft. If a guy is still in school and playing his fourth year, he likely was not drafted at all. Playing and excelling as a freshman is commonplace now; I do not know other teams’ rosters, and I do not know UT’s well, but your hated Longhorns have at least four freshmen who have made significant contributions.

There are several strong teams in the CWS. The SR round was fun to watch.

ETA: I just looked at UT’s roster. Lots of guys who redshirted and quite a few true freshmen. Only two seniors on the team: one is a catcher who rarely plays and the other (Antico) is a transfer from St. John’s who has become a star.

NCAA gave everyone an extra year of eligibility, or something like that, because they lost last season to COVID, so more guys got redshirted this year, and rosters were more crowded than usual. Not sure how much that will affect the next few seasons though.

With the draft being shortened last year and the extra year of eligibility, there were more older players than normal. Still it also means many sophomores are older and will be draft eligible. Also transfers are going to be active this year. So don’t count on roster stability this year.

Only two seniors on UT’s roster, but lots of redshirted players.

Just thinking about how many freshman got redshirted this year. Much more than usual. It won’t manifest so much next year, but this season’s freshman class will get bunched in with next years’. In a couple of years, it will be a really crowded junior class. Happened to my nephew at Baylor.

And a bunch of kids went Juco that will be looking to transfer.
