College Baseball 2021

Tickets punched to the CWS thus far:

Stanford
Vandy
Tennessee

Tennessee crushed LSU.

The Piggie coach is working this pitcher for all he’s got.

He’s the National player of the year as a relief pitcher.

Naturally, Arky started him in game 3 and he just gave up a homer in the 9th to make it 3-2 NC St. on his 118th pitch of the game.

College coaches, man.

And down goes #1 Arkansas.

That is bad only because he also pitched yesterday.

Unless we see the mother of all comebacks, tickets punched to the CWS thus far:

Stanford
Arizona
Vandy
Tennessee
NC State
Texas

(2 SEC, 2 PAC-12, 1 BIG-12, 1 ACC)

DBU/UVA and Notre Dame/Miss State tomorrow.

Bye, bye Piggies

That was a fun beat down to watch by the BatCats at Hi Corbett, bud.

On to Omaha (along with the Longhorns).

Well done, BatCats.

Oh, and the Houston Astros won.

I think you meant, bye bye, pig-fuckers :metal:t2:

Saw a first ever (for me) umpire gaffe last night:

Runners at first and second, sharp ground ball in the hole at SS, Faltine caught the ball with a lunge and as he was falling, somehow managed to throw the ball to Williams at third. The play was better than great.

The play at third was close, but not bang-bang, and the runner was clearly out. The third base umpire did not call anything! He just stood there watching, and when he realized everyone was waiting on him for a call, he signaled a very tardy “Safe.” The crowd went crazy.

The third base ump called for a conference with the other three, and they circled up and had a brief discussion. As they broke up, the third base umpire signaled “Out,” and the crowd roared its approval. Faltine’s great play got lost in the umpire’s brain cramp.

I guarantee you, he did not have a clue there was a force out at third. He completely forgot or blanked on the game situation. When Faltine threw to Williams, the ump just watched the play without any call. He did realize he needed a conference with the others after the crowd’s disbelief reaction to the belated safe call. If he ordinarily is a good umpire, he must have been mortified and embarrassed by his not knowing the game situation before the ball was hit.

This was my exact reaction to the play.

I didn’t even think of that. I saw Williams lose contact for a short period when receiving the throw, but then clearly got the bag before the runner. I thought that was behind the confusion, but this explanation makes much more sense.

I was fairly close to third base with a clear view. The runner definitely was out, and had the umpire thought Williams’ being off the bag was significant, he would have signaled “safe.” He did not call anything.

I’ve never seen a sliding throw executed like that.

Right on the money.

Amazing.

That was indeed amazing. Been looking for video of the play so people would know what we’re talking about, but can’t find it.

Truly a great play, and USF was rallying.

This was another great one in a big spot later that inning. Anything can happen, but this is the most complete Horns team I’ve seen in a long while. Fully geeked for the CWS.
