Not statistically way better. In 1984, McDowell’s last year at ASU and Bond’s second to last year, McDowell beat Bonds in virtually every offensive stat category.
Probably so. I did not bother to look them up. I was going more on the opinion of the baseball folks I was around then and on stuff I have read. I do not think many folks, except you of course, thought McDowell was better than Bonds at ASU.
I never thought to compare them, so I didn’t consider one bring better than the other. I just thought one had the best season by a collegiate player than I had ever witnessed in 1984. Then in 1985 Incaviglia came along and had an even better season.
After the weekend’s play we know exactly half of the Super Regional field. Today’s games will fill out the rest of the field.
From the Big XII only Texas and Texas Tech advanced, both in sweeps of their Regional. TCU made mistakes against Dallas Baptist and they paid the price, whereas Oklahoma State was embarrassed by UCSB twice.
Texas waits to see who emerges from the rain soaked Gainesville regional, South Alabama or South Florida. No telling when they will get their games in.
Texas Tech won’t know until this evening whether they will host the Stanford Cardinal or the University of California, Irvine Anteaters.
I went to last night’s Texas game on a whim (tickets were pretty cheap). I saw Chris Del Conte walking by, gave him a head nod, and he made a beeline toward me and gave me a fist bump. That was really cool.
The game wasn’t very memorable, but it was nice to coast into the Supers. South Alabama is already up on South Florida in the bottom of the 5th but after Tennessee Tech gave Texas everything they could handle two years ago I’m not expecting anything other than a dogfight at the Disch this weekend.
South Alabama finishes yesterday’s game off, so they and South Florida have a winner-take-all game in about 45 minutes
Are you watching this somewhere?
Haven’t figured out if it’s gonna be on tv; EspnU and Espn2 have other games scheduled as of now.
Where’s the Ocho when you need it?
I don’t see a listing for SoAlabama-SoFla, but everything else is on either ESPN2 or ESPNU (except ODU-UVa on ESPN3).
SoMiss-Ole Miss 1pm ESPN2
OregSt-DBU 3pm ESPNU
ODU-UVa 4pm ESPN3
Ark-Neb 6pm ESPN2
MissSt-Campbell is in a rain delay with MissSt up 5-3 in the 5th.
SoMiss-Ole Miss also delayed
espn has the trucks and cameras and announcers already at the stadium in Gainsville, they were live earlier, I don’t see why they can’t put that game on somewhere.
Oops… MSU-Campbell only in the 4th, and it just restarted.
Campbell loaded the bases in the 3rd, I think it was, and the MSU reliever struck out the side to leave them loaded. Felt oddly familiar.
The ESPN app on my TV had just about every game all weekend, FWIW.
South Floribama also delayed
Ditto my ESPN app. I just fired it up.
Yep, got it figured out. Starts in :30, I’m curious to see UT’s opposition, since I know nothing about either of these teams.
Ethan Wilson (LH hitting OF) is projected as a 1st round draft pick by many. Their SS is a very good glove and bat is picking up.
Solid but not spectacular pitchers. JoJo Booker was drafted out of HS by the Angels in the 5th round 4 years ago. He is likely the top prospect.
Mississippi State gets by the Campbell Camels 6-5. The Bulldogs will host Notre Dame in the Super Regional.
And he just went over the fence to save a 2-R HR
Beavers being downright unPatriotic with four runs in the third. Now 5-0.
