There is no telling what we will get when McCullers comes back from injury. James has a history of injuries. He seems like a bullpen arm to me. Urquidy has never pitched a full major league season. We need a proven starting pitcher. Miley pitched well until the end of the year. He will be gone more than likely in 2020. Greinke doesn’t replace Cole. Verlander isn’t getting any younger. We will certainly need a good starter to be on the same level as last year.
Without Cole, we will not be on the same level as last year.
Cole had a generational season. We need another starter from outside the organization. Those now within the organization will be insufficient, particularly if NY empties the vault which appears a foregone conclusion
I agree with all of this. Just don’t think we need to spend that kinda money long term. There are other options.
Let go of Cole folks. He’s gone. And I don’t blame him. We humans don’t understand that kind of $$, but there will be some Cole’s 5 generations from now that will be happy he did what he did. He’s thinking long term, not about himself.
Horse shit
Well… it’s the only way I’m able to rationalize this kinda shit. I certainly don’t want to demonize someone that I really don’t know anything about…
So you deify him? “Just an altruistic guy, looking out for others and not himself.”
That’s funny.
I suppose he wasn’t thinking of himself when he wore the Boras hat minutes after game 7?
Of course he wasn’t. Boras is just trying to put food on his family’s table like everyone else. Kudos to Cole for looking out for Boras when the Martin Maldonados of the world won’t.
Like clockwork, Heyman says that a “mystery team” is in on Cole.
something to keep the excitement going in the void. honestly he just needs to sign and not let it linger on.
That is the Astros style, being a “mystery team” on signings and trades. Hopefully that is them.
Verducci was just on MLB Network thinking Cole deal may be done by the end of the on-going Winter meetings. Reynolds agreed. I can’t imagine that myself unless Cole is driving the bus and clearly has a destination in mind. And if that’s the case…has to be NYY.
Angels meeting with Boras today. This whole thing feels like Boras trying drive up the price before the meetings end and get someone to overbid.
I bet Boras has an auctioneer voice in his head going… 250, 250, I got 250, can I get 275? I got 275, can I get 300 million?
If Cole is driving the bus, it’s to Anaheim.
Cole not only purchased the bus, he gassed it up, checked the oil, and is driver, navigator, pit crew, and window washer.
That said, the Astros have a snowball’s chance in hell of re-signing him.
Not sure if they know what they are talking about but that was an interesting article. I agree it’s a slim chance to keep him.
