There is no telling what we will get when McCullers comes back from injury. James has a history of injuries. He seems like a bullpen arm to me. Urquidy has never pitched a full major league season. We need a proven starting pitcher. Miley pitched well until the end of the year. He will be gone more than likely in 2020. Greinke doesn’t replace Cole. Verlander isn’t getting any younger. We will certainly need a good starter to be on the same level as last year.
Without Cole, we will not be on the same level as last year.
Cole had a generational season. We need another starter from outside the organization. Those now within the organization will be insufficient, particularly if NY empties the vault which appears a foregone conclusion
I agree with all of this. Just don’t think we need to spend that kinda money long term. There are other options.

Let go of Cole folks. He’s gone. And I don’t blame him. We humans don’t understand that kind of $$, but there will be some Cole’s 5 generations from now that will be happy he did what he did. He’s thinking long term, not about himself.
