Alexandra Daddario on Natalie Dormer’s shoulders

Excellent example. So did I.

Jeff Passan at ESPN has quite the write up with more details from unnamed sources:

I think it’s paywall, so I’ll just mention two of the items that jumped out at me:

They have a direct quote from an Astros employee - “Sometimes I wonder if Jim thinks he’s Jerry Jones”

There appear to be three candidates for the GM job: Sig Mejdal, David Stearns, and - if you were wondering just how much pull Bagwell now has - Brad Ausmus.

There’s nothing new at all in the article. We’re dialed in Astros fans and have seen it all already. Happy to post it if someone asks.

I think Ausmus could be intriguing.

I always heard how smart he is and " he will be a manager some day"

He is an all time Astro, playing 10 years and over 1250 games despite having the weakest bat I ever remember.

But also hit one of the clutchest most important HR in Astros history. And, I’m sure, the most unlikely.

Please note who is posting this comment.

Ausmus pissed me off with his whining when Marisnick took out LaCroy (or whoever it was with the Angels).

But, if that is what Jim Crane does then I’ll probably find it in my heart to love again.

And if it were Ausmus, I wonder if Bagwell would be telling him to let the GM do their job? Would Bagwell even say that?

Total bullshit re Jerry Jones.

If that feeling is bubbling up within the FO itself, seems relevant to me.

I would also think it might be pretty relevant to any potential interview candidates for the GM job.

This was the reason I posted that. It’s total bullshit for us to theorize about it from the outside. It’s relevant for someone on the inside to say that to a reporter.

Perhaps it’s total bullshit to theorize it from the inside as well.

That Passan article also says Crane personally negotiated the Montero deal which was “widely seen in the industry as a hefty price to give a 32-year-old with only one good full big league season”.

I actually didn’t care about that item - someone has to do contracts until they get a GM, and it’s his money so I don’t care if he overpaid.

Bagwell was critical of the Astros’ player development system. WTF???

Now that the Astros are once again champs, they are gonna suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. People will continue to come after them. I hope it continues for many years.

Yep. Crane has proven he will spend what it takes to improve the team. Whatever other criticisms might be legitimate, unwillingness to spend is absolutely categorically not one of them.

You need to know who it is who said it and the motivation. You appear to be incredibly quick to jump on Crane. Nothing he has done we know about is even remotely close to Jerry Jones.

Laughable to indict Crane for “overpaying.” He is spending HIS MONEY to improve the team.

Exactly. Although, there’re probably a couple, or more, owners pissing and moaning about him raising the market for comparable players.

Yes, because parting ways with the GM of the world champs, in my mind, does not lend itself to benefit of the doubt.

This is absolutely correct and fair, but I still felt it was a comment worth consideration.

Does the article go into any detail on that? Feels like the the PD system would be the last thing to criticize. Not saying it’s perfect, anything can be improved, but the Astros turn nobodies into all-stars like no other team.

No more details unfortunately.
