Guess I’ll try not to read into it then. Could be relatively minor criticism, who knows. But the results have been so good that you have to hope the PD system doesn’t get shaken up too much.
If half of the comments available to read are true, Click was not easy or pleasant to work with. A GM is no more than an employee, and apparently this has been brewing for 2 of his 3 years. He turned down the contract offered because he believed he deserved more. Sounds kinda like Correa to me.
He did a good job in certain areas, most notably bringing in certain members of the bullpen, but he in no way created this WS winning team. He inherited a very warm bed. Never smart to dissatisfy your boss or to ignore the dissatisfaction even outsiders knew was there.
I don’t know much about Jones’ decisions overs the years, all I know it that I cringe when I hear or see him. However, most of the decisions that Crane supposedly meddled in, seem pretty good. Bottom line: Crane becomes Jerry Jones when he meddles and fucks up the franchise for a long time; until then, he should be respected and at a minimum, not compared to ghouls.
Yeah, I think it is relevant and any potential GM hire would too.
I’ll also add that Crane being so involved with the decision making is all well in good as long as the team continues to win. The second they start to fall back to the pack, the finger is going to be pointed at him, not his front office managers/staff.
Now that the media has gotten to take another swipe at Crane and the Astros, I’m sure they’ll get right back to levying valid criticisms against Peter Angelos, Robert Nutting, John Fisher, Bob Castellini, and all the other fuckhead owners of perennial non-contenders. Most fans could only dream of their team’s owner being as involved as Crane.
