48-0 is the final.
Baylor curb-stomped Texas Tech 45-17. The game was never close even though Tech was within seven points at the end of three quarters. Then a fourth quarter Tech interceptipalooza and Baylor laid 21 points on them.
Tech gets TCU next week.
I’m still trying to figure out that K State game. How does something like that happen?
Auburn fired Bryan Harsin today - Its about time! They were regressing every week. All the coaches who followed Harsin from Boise except 1 (DC Jeff Schmedding) were fired as well.
Also hired a new AD today - Mike Cohen from Miss State. - First on his to do list… hire a new football coach.
Cadillac Williams named Interim HC for the last 4 games of the season.
Do they hire Deion?
Would Deion take the job? I doubt it.
Deion will do anything for the right price.
I think their first target is Lane Kiffen.
I don’t think Deion is a good fit. Too big of a gamble for this program at this time.
Frankly I can’t stand the guy.
Just Google Prime Prep Academy.
Why would Kiffykins move laterally?
It’s not lateral move. Auburn is a better, though unstable, job. There’s a ceiling at Ole Miss, there isn’t one at Auburn
That said I don’t get the feeling Lane will move this cycle
Mississippi law only allows 4 year contracts. Auburn doesn’t have that limitation.
He has expressed frustration with the fan base and the NIL collective at Ole Miss.
Better chance of competing with Savannah at Auburn than at Ole Miss.
I don’t know that he will say yes, but I think they will make him say no before they go to someone else
Ok, that’s an important factor. Because Auburn’s boosters are so crazy/delusional that they’ll have to offer a fully guaranteed contract.
But a big part of Auburn’s problem is that that’s see a national championship ceiling - which, ok, Cam got them one - but their floor/average is about to be behind:
Bama
Georgia
OU
LSU
Texas
Florida
And roughly equivalent to TAMU and Tennessee.
They may be slightly ahead of Ole Miss, but they’re a mid-tier SEC program with illusions that they should be the best every year.
You’re right that Auburn should go after him until he says no. I think he could be really good there.
The thing with Lane, at least the sense I get, is that he has been burn before. Leaving a place that loved him, that seemed like it could be stable, for a job that had a higher ceiling but could be tumultuous. He has stated before that he kinda regretted leaving Tennessee for USC. After flaming out at USC and then going to Bama and not getting another chance at a top tier school, at least confrence wise, for 7 years. I feel like if he were to leave Ole Miss, it would be for a job more stable than Auburn. Maybe a school that had a coach leave for the NFL or retire or something.
I disagree - despite having to play Alabama, Georgia and LSU every year, Auburn has managed to make it to two national championship games and has won one other SEC west title since 2010.
-
With conference expansion coming, Auburn schedule will get easier!
-
Auburn is one of the top schools who would have benefited from the expanded play off had it been in place during the BCS time frame - 7 times, Auburn headed into bowl season in the top 12 in CFP or BCS rankings.
-
National championships appearances since 2010:
Auburn - 2 (2010 & 2013)
Bama - infinity (really just 8) (During that time Auburn 4-8 against bama. Will soon by 4-9. Bama been ranked in 10 every game - #1 0r #2 10 of those years.)
Georgia - 2 (Just 3 -9 during this span. It hasn’t been pretty either.)
OU - 0 (last appearance 2008, then 2004 (Auburn was screwed that year), 03, & 00)
LSU - 2 (Auburn plays them every year - is 5-8 during span)
Texas - 0 (Last appearance 2009 before that 2005)
Florida - 0 (last appearance 2008, before that 06)
Texas A&M 0 (no appearances in a National championship game since beginning of BCS, 5-5 head to head since 2010)
Tennessee - 0 (Won 1998 first BCS Natty, no appearances since, Auburn 2-1 against them since 2010
Other than Bama and Georgia, I don’t see a big difference between the rest of those teams and Auburn. And several, Auburn has had better outcomes playing a tougher schedule.
Having Bama & Georgia on the schedule every year is an issue. I expect that will not change. Georgia has actually dominated more this century than Bama. Since 2000, Auburn is 11-11 verses Bama and 7 - 17 (extra two games - Already lost to UGA this year and played them in an SEC title game in 2017).
Duman, is Hugh Freeze a legit candidate? As an Auburn fan, what are your thoughts on that possibility?
I think he is based on some in the fanbase but I would be opposed to him. He brings too much drama with him.
Here is a list of names from a reporter who is level headed & reasonable:
Should hear about them talked to: (check the most boxes)
Lane Kiffin
Jeff Grimes (Baylor OC - coached at OL at Auburn prior to Malzhan)
Charles Kelly (Bama Co Def. Coor. - played at Auburn, outstanding recruiter)
Will hear about them talking to: (some boxes unchecked)
Deion Sanders
Matt Rhule
Hugh Freeze
Mark Stoops
Mike Leach
Might hear about (outside the box hires)
Dan Lanning
Dave Aranda
Mike Gundy
Jamey Chadwell (Coastal Carolina HC)
Dave Clawson
Jon Sumrall (Troy HC)
Dell McGee (UGA RB Coach, former AU Player, top recruiter)
Travis Williams (UCF Def. Coor. former AU player and position coach, head coach material)
Travaris Robinson (Bama CB coach, former AU player, former DC at So. Car., strong recruiter)
Kevin Steele (Miami DC)
Joe Witt Jr (Cowboys DB coach, son of longtime AU assistant)
Brian Johnson (Eagles QB coach, OC under Mullin at Ms. St & Fla)
Cadillac Williams (Interim HC Auburn- only if he pulls a Dabo and wins out and gives them no choice but to keep him)
That would be my list if I were Auburn. Not necessarily in that order.
I think whoever has the guts to hire Jamey Chadwell will not regret it. I just don’t know if a power 5 school will feel like they he has enough experience. Especially if you’re a new AD making his first hire, would be seen as risky
Thanks for the info. IMO, the Gundy, Aranda, Lanning tier is superior to the tier with Leach, Freeze Sanders, etc., but I suspect the eventual selection (who accepts) will be a more flamboyant type, one who figures they can sail right through the drama and expectations.
