Seriously, just fuck this team.
Three GIDP.
They are .500 in series sweeps so they have that going for them.
Nobody expected this. Iām disappointed by so many things with the team right now. They have to get back to playing complementary baseball starting Friday if they want to salvage this season.
Iām having serious year 2000 flashbacks.
Iāve been thinking about how Drayton let himself get in the way of things and fired Hunsicker with predictably disastrous results down the line.
A road trip canāt come fast enough.
I want Jose Abreu to succeed, but I donāt understand how the Astros can keep running him out there at 1B. He is an automatic out right now, and heās making defensive mistakes, too. That ball in the 8th inning has to be fielded cleanly. Itās a play Yuli would routinely make.
Put him on the IL and see if you can fix him, but heās not helping the team right now.
Because the current alternative is Jon Singleton.
Theyāve got 8 automatic outs per nine innings tied up at 1B.
Doesnāt matter at this point. Either call Loperfido up or sign a free agent like Brandon Belt or Donovan Solano. In the short term, get Dubón a lot of reps at 1B or use Caratini there. Iām not a fan of Singleton, but he at least is hitting .250 with a .343 OBP. Abreuās average is lower than his jersey number, and any decent fastball eats him up.
This version of Jose Abreu is not helping the Astros in any capacity, and he needs some time off to try and get right. Unless the team wants to bite the bullet and designate him for assignment.
In fairness to Singleton, he entered the day with a .343 OBP. He has actually been better than average at not making an out. Has he done anything else productive, of course not.
Abreuās OBP entering the day was .148.
Then hit Singleton 9th and send him to the plate without a bat.
Padres got Solano on a minor league deal
After the game today Espada dusted off the old Look at the back of his baseball card when talking about Abreu. Man, fuck all these people. He has a WAR of better than -1.0 (worse than, I should say), and he hasnāt even played 10% of the season. Incredible. Fuckwits.
I wonder if Abreuās eyesight is giving him trouble. Being late on fastballs is one thing, but his defensive struggles make me think itās something more than ājustā age⦠and yes, declining eyesight is obviously part of that. I would assume the team checks that out before each season, but⦠who knows.
Thanks for the clarification.
The Abreu contract will go down as one of the worst in franchise history. Sure, it wasnāt hundreds of millions, but the ROI is nowhere near what was expected. And I donāt know what they are going to do about him. Heās untradeable and I canāt see them eating that much money and sending him home. At least not this year.
Crane and Bagwell made that bed vipers and weāve all got to sleep in it.
It could be eyes, but Iām thinking itās probably age. There have been rumors that he is older than what the paperwork says. And even if that paperwork is factual, it certainly looks like heās too old. The game catches up with everyone at some point and I think heās hit that reality.
āmade that bed vipersā? Never heard that one before
His back was a problem for most of last season, your back typically does not get better with age.
