He can umpire old timer’s games. His obviously terrible calls will have comedic value.
I guess there are no longer any umpires prone to incompetence.
They should the robot umps “Joe Wests,” as a tribute
Maybe Joe Westworlds
Part of the bad news in this is that Ron Kulpa has been promoted to crew chief.
Rober Ford with an interesting thread on the umpires. He notes that Angel Hernandez is now the 3rd-longest tenured umpire in all of baseball
Only the wrong survive.
Those who can, do. Those who can’t, teach. And those who can’t teach apparently coach travel ball teams and make asses of themselves on Twitter.
Looks like Tyler Bauer is getting off free on this.
Of course he’s getting off on it. He’s signed for two more years and the Dodger rotation is a little thin.
Manfred said in his presser today that MLB and the players have agreed to the universal DH and eliminating draft pick compensation for free agents. Says that there is no change in the status of spring training, and that they can get it up and running in about a week if/when a deal is reached.
Oh, and he also said that MLB plans to start offering NFTs, because fucking of course.
So since Correa failed to sign elsewhere before the CBA expired he’s gonna walk and there’ll be no pick.
Fanfuckingtastic.
What do the players get out of that? Do they think it will incentivize the teams to sign them to $40M deals?
I’m gonna go yell at some clouds now.
That’s exactly what will happen. Teams now think “oh well, that’s too rich for us, so we’ll let him walk and get a draft pick”. There’s no longer a silver lining for letting guys walk, so they’ll be more likely to up offers and try to keep guys. Secondly, teams will no longer be afraid to sign veteran guys because they don’t want to lose a pick. This is aimed at the tanking problem as well as encouring signing older players.
“Not the adjective I would have used.”

Forgot to add…the price for Correa just went up several million dollars.
They would surely agree that the new comp rules take effect next offseason, right? Seems crazy to implement two different sets of rules for the same FA class. Less reason to wait a year to implement the NL DH, but there’s a good case for doing that too.
Right. The compensation pick exists to depress the value of free agency.
I can’t imagine the players would agree to play under the old CBA conditions, especially one they hate and have worked hard to eliminate.
Bingo. It was an easy swap for the owners to give this up while holding the line on a luxury tax.
