Over the billions of years the earth has existed I think of myself as lucky that I got to exist in the time of the “Dick Pic Scandal”.
Given what we’ve found archaeologically from the Romans and Greeks and such, I’m pretty sure there have been dick pic scandals since humans developed dicks and the ability to carve/draw
If anyone has gobs of spare cash laying around, they’re now auctioning off old Minute Maid Park signage.
Will proceeds go to pay for bullpen help?
Jesus. Former White Sox closer Bobby Jenks and his family lost their home in the CA wildfires, and then he was diagnosed with terminal cancer.
Damn…God Bless.
Pretty cool little video showing an alternate angle of Jackie Robinson stealing home plate in Game 1 in the 1955 World Series. He’s still safe.
100% safe. Yogi’s mit is at the back of the plate waiting for Robinson’s foot. His foot had to travel across the plate to get to the mit.
Has anybody else noticed how delightful everyone is finding the big league games in minor league parks? I keep thinking of the Yankees game being held in basically a High School field in Interstellar. Contrasted with vast, largely empty stadiums (particularly when it’s cold as hell outside), they’re so much livelier/cozier.
I can tell you first hand, the experience is so much more engaging and fun. Add to that it’s outside baseball, which we haven’t had on the ML level. I went to Opening Day and will be at 2 of the upcoming Astros games as well as one of the Phillies games. That’s already 3 more games than I did last year but it helps that I’m 2.5 miles from Steinbrenner Field. Not crazy about the prices, though.
I was wondering about the prices. Are they commensurately more expensive than they were at the Trop owing to the (presumed) reduction in ticket sales?
They are. The least expensive ticket that gets you a seat is ~$60 and that’s in the outfield. They have standing room tickets for ~$30 and $10 rush tickets that are also standing room but they are offered right before game time and go fast.
There are a lot less food and drink options than the Trop and the prices are slightly jacked. And while parking is easy, it’s $30 and there’s only one pedestrian bridge over the 8-lane thoroughfare between the stadium and the lot so it’s a people jam after the game.
Despite all of that, it’s such a better experience than what I’ve had watching a game at the Trop.
Also about tickets, all of the season ticket holders from the Trop had the option to “pause” their accounts while they played in Tampa. Not only were most of the seats more than double the price, there were less than half of them available.
I know its a very long shot but an A’s-Rays playoff series would be delightful
A few years back the Daegu professional soccer team moved from the giant World Cup stadium way outside the city to a cozier stadium downtown and the energy of the games/crowd surged. It became the hot new activity in the city.
That Sacramento stadium with trees on the berm is a delight.
My boss is an A’s fan (well, his two kids are) and has been to several games in Sacramento. He has nothing but good things to say about the stadium and experience.
I get that it’s a nice experience but I prefer them in Oakland. Too bad the powers that be in Oakland didn’t.
