We appreciate the scouting report, agent Dithers. Let’s hope Lance can keep the momentum going.

Gave up a single, a walk and a double in the second, gave up 2 runs, had a visit from the pitching coach, finished the inning and we have a new pitcher in the third.

Who had the under on Scherzer innings pitched before heading to the IL?

So re the Yankme’s new bats, they must not have used them during spring training, or all baseball journalists weren’t paying attention. Presumably the batters have been working with them, because they presumably change hitting some. I wonder how they used them before the season started?

Oops: Profar getting an 80-day suspension for PEDs.

This is my shocked face

I’m sure Atlanta feels real cool about just having signed him to a three-year deal coming off an outlier season.

I’m sure s/he’d be arrested in Georgia if he did anything otherwise.

Padres sign Merrill to a 9 year extension. Just $135 million.

What a steal. That’s Braves level of team friendly

Remember when we thought getting Dana Brown would mean lots of team-friendly extensions?

Those deals have to happen early, like first year or two. The Braves also only did those deals with hitters. The only players on this team since Brown took over that could have been realistically signed long term are Diaz and Pena. The ship might have sailed on both but could still happen. I’ll be curious if they try to approach Smith with a long term deal this winter.

I think also that had a lot to do with clubhouse chemistry in Atlanta. Those guys love each other. When they inked Acuna to 8-years at $100 million they likely couched it in terms of: This will help us build a core to compete for championships the entire time you’re here, which lets Albies follow, etc. I’ve thought a lot about our hopes that we’d see some of that magic with Brown, but it was probably a singular, lucky event brought about by a coinciding of rare factors there in the Dirty South.

I never did understand that. Why would hiring Atlanta’s scouting director mean we could replicate the extensions negotiated by the business side of their FO?

The Red Sox also locked up top prospect Kristian Campbell, who just made his MLB debut this season. 8 years, $60M guarantee, plus club options at $19M and $21M for the following two years (which, given inflation, will look absurdly cheap by then if Campbell is even close to good).

Just noticed the Braves are 0-7.

Ouch.

Would not have predicted that.

Jimmy Carter was keeping that team going
