Still the 30 k capacity? How can you field an MLB payroll that way?

TV $ and suites.

It’s the A’s. They have not been particularly interested in fielding a major league payroll for a while.

Gate is a much smaller percentage of revenue than it used to be. The extra revenue from 10k or 15k more AIS, in the games where you actually sell that many, just isn’t enough to make a big difference.

Trevor Bauer is a sick asshole

Wow. That guy is a worthless human being.

The A’s have won 7 straight and have now passed the Royals

I assume they’re next on our schedule.

Giants whack a 2-out, 2-strike, 2-run homer to tie up the Cards in the top of the 9th, and then the Cards’ pen gives up 3 in the top of the 10th. I’m happy to see it happen to somebody else.

It’s been a minute since we got a reminder of just how horrible Rob Manfred is, so let’s go to his quote last night on A’s fans “reverse boycott”:

“I mean, it was great. It is great to see what is this year almost an average Major League Baseball crowd in the facility for one night. That’s a great thing.”

What a tone deaf asshole.

He’s listening to the only people who matter for his job.

If I lived in the Oakland area, I would only attend games if I wanted to see the other team.

These are in no way mutually exclusive.

Actually, if Manfred is listening to the owners and only the owners (his employers) then maybe he hears the tone exactly right.

We often forget this. Manfred works for the owners. He’s there to represent their financial interests.

This is what I do, but I really do feel bad for my friends who are A’s fans. This is primarily on Fisher and Co.

Almost refreshing for Manfred to acknowledge that the contempt between him and the fans is mutual.

It’s been such a weird year for Rob. His ratings with fans was so so low coming into the year. Then the new rules have been pretty great in most people’s estimation, he seems to be handling the RSN stuff pretty well, he could have rewritten his legacy. Then he started talking about the A’s relocation and blew up all the good will he could have gotten from the general audience.

Same. I have several friends here in Napa who are devout (but now resigned) A’s fans. Having experienced the Oilers leaving Houston, I feel even worse for what they’re going through.

Also, fuck rob manfred. He’s rapidly approaching bud selig territory for me.
