Baseball Miscellany

WTF are you talking about?

I don’t think we’ll ever know.

Only if we’re lucky.

Which Bruce is in charge of the sheep dip?

I saw Singleton hit yesterday for the Brewers. He has cut out all the nonsense of waving the bat around up above his head before the pitch comes in. I remember thinking, back in the day, that he was always a little late on everything and maybe he should stop waving the bat around so much.

Man, some elite level trolling by the Blue Jays (not Astros related).

Anthony Bass said some homophobic shit.
The Blue Jays made him apologize, which he did quite half-assedly.
Anthony Bass was announced to be the player catching the ceremonial first pitch on the first night of Pride Weekend at the Jays game tonight.
The Blue Jays announced just a bit ago that they have DFAed Anthony Bass.

Damn, trolling your own player is hardcore. I hope they told him “Catch the fabulous opening pitch ceremony tonight or your ass is gone.” Knowing he would refuse, so bye Felicia.

In drag.

Not in Texas.

Fair point.

Eloy Jimenez is injured again. The guy is hurt more than Brian Buxton. Please don’t trade for him.

His hamstring stains have strains

Wonderful tribute here from the Rockets to Mark Berman on his retirement.

Shane Bieber is feeling a bit Verlander-lite to me.

Obviously he doesn’t have the same track record, but Bieber could be an impact acquisition for someone.

I remember lots of doubt on whether JV was the same pitcher because his performance was down from prior seasons.

IF (and I know its a big if) Bieber has some of what JV and Randy Johnson have in them, he could be the boost this team needs.

True, but that division is so damn bad that practically every team but the Royals and possibly the Tigers, are going to be alive for a playoff spot and the division crown at the trade deadline. He may not be available. The Twins have the best starting rotation ERA in the majors (or at least top 3, didn’t check today’s rankings) yet they are on an 81 win pace!! They are on track to set a new MLB record for striking out. Their offense is horrible with the exception of Kirilloff and Lewis. The winner of that division just might be sub .500 when it’s all said and done.

We should all be pulling for the Twins to get their shit together and put the Guardians and White Sox out of contention.

The Guardians are not like most teams who hold on to anyone who can help them if they have a chance at the playoffs.

Like Milwaukee trading Hader last year, they look to maximize the returns on stars they feel they can’t extend.

They also have #17 and #58 overall prospects who are SP and about MLB ready, and have had 9 pitchers start games for them this season, so they have plenty of pitching depth.

Most professional speculators are predicting him to get moved.

Barry Svrluga from The Washington Post has a nice column on Dana Brown:

Mentions several of the guys Brown drafted while he was with the Nationals (Ryan Zimmerman, Tyler Matzek, Marco Estrada) and that he’s probably ideally suited to be in charge of the Astros draft next month. Well worth a read.

The Nevada senate passed the funding bill for the A’s’ Vegas stadium. So long, Oakland.

(Still has to clear the state house, but the governor supports it and I think the senate was believed to be the main hurdle.)

I was in the Oakland Airport on Saturday morning walking to my gate to get our new plane to go to Hawai’i, and saw the boarded up construction area for the new Oakland A’s Taproom in Terminal 1.
I think they may have to kill that project…
