Baseball Miscellany

All YouTube Live streams have an accompanying live chat that people can participate in during the livestream, and that plays back in realtime with the video once the livestream ends. Chandler is (correctly) stating that the chat will be full of shitposting, but it won’t be part of the actual game broadcast.

I hope this isn’t the future.

That kind of live commentary from fans gimmicky shit is best ignored. Like the wave or mascots.

The last thing any of us needs is a bunch of yahoos on the internet commenting on the game in real time.

I didn’t realize Stink was a NYY. How poetic.

You obviously did not read Cabrera’s posts.

They probably exist, but I can’t recall a call as bad as that.

That’s a horrible call, but people who write about baseball for a living should really learn the difference between interference and obstruction, especially if they’re going to get on their high horse about one of them being called.

It’s like when you’re watching a football game, and an offensive lineman moves before the snap, and some yahoo in the booth says the penalty was “offsides”. Just nails on a chalkboard.

Yeah, sorry that was a bullshit call.

Why even have the runner’s lane marked if the umpire doesn’t care if the runner actually uses it? Diaz is running on the infield grass.

But once he’s on the grass, he’s entitled to a straight line to the bag, as long as he doesn’t interfere with the throw. Or so the “logic” goes, I believe. It was still a totally bogus call.

The runner’s lane protects the runner from unintentional interference, but it is not required for him to be obstructed. A fielder who is not in possession of the ball, or in the act of fielding the ball, cannot impede the runner’s progress. The ump ruled that after he fielded the ball and threw to 1B, the pitcher forced the runner to slow down or deviate from his path.

It’s still a bullshit call.

Thank you for the clarification on the difference in the rules between obstruction and interference. Like you said, considering Godley had already tossed the ball to first base before “obstructing” Diaz, it was definitely a bullshit call.

If anyone didn’t see it…Bryce Harper was drilled in the face with a 97 mph fastball from Genesis Cabrera last night. I don’t mean it bounced up and hit him, I mean he took the pitch directly to the cheek…the one that’s unprotected. He left the game to go get scanned at a hospital, and says he’s fine. On the next pitch, Cabrera drilled Didi Gregorius in the ribs. Needless to say, Joe Girardi was not happy and ended up getting tossed.
