What moriarty and Waldo said. It cannot be more stupid, and it puts tired or hurt starting pitchers on a plank to walk because of not wanting to lose an important hitter. The Grindr/Yordan example is a great one. I hope the union blows it up quickly.
Agreed. I canât see this ever taking hold in MLB. The trend is towards more DH, not lessâŚthe players want it, the teams want it, the fans want itâŚNo way they move back from from it. Unless this is some whacked plan to try to get teams to baby young pitchers less, itâs possibly the dumbest off all the proposed rule changes. If it IS that plan, then itâs definitely the dumbest.
Letâs change something that has been canon since 1893 and change it. Neverminding that the entire pitching ecosystem of training and development has been built on 60â-6". Imagine the pitching injuries. Imagine the batters absolutely teeing off with the extra time to see the ball. Imagine the pounding the catchers nuts will take.
The only possible rationale for that DH rule is âHey lets try this, to make teams wanna have an old school, 9 inning, 200 pitch, workhorse who throw till they arms fall off like the good ole days!â when in reality all it would do is eliminate roster spots for pure DH. The Astros, for example, would have to put Alvarez on the field. It would lead to DHâs being the worst hitter in the lineup and just batting 9th in pitcher spot as a general roster building rule. Its one step above simply not having a DH
