The A’s have more problems than this, but he can be removed for cause. The Thunder NBA team did that after their play by play announcer mentioned “Westbrook” and “cotton” in the same sentence when Westbrook took an ill-advised shot
- This is a good discussion about the new disengagement rules and mound visits.
- It’s clear even the umpires are unclear on things at times
- I’ve seen enough of these videos to conclude that Greg Counsell is a red ass.
Nice.
“like a duckling following a parrot” and “can you throw someone back into the game” are great lines.
I think it was “parent” rather than “parrot”, but it’s good either way.
Well that makes a hell of a lot more sense
Craig Counsell is a prick of the highest order.
While I get the point of the video and the call for clarification of the rules, how would it make any sense for a disengagement followed immediately by a catcher visit to count as both and not just the catcher visit?
Also, it should be stressed way more that the crew got together, figured it out, and fixed the situation quickly. The only problem here is Counsell had to come out and be a horse’s ass about it.
Counsell vs Servais…who ya got?
12 Rounds: LaRussa, Guillen, and Lasorda are the judges.
Wow, Acuña just nailed a Manfred Man trying to go 2nd to 3rd on a fly to right in the top of the 11th. One bounce, right on the bag.
Braves walk it off vs the O’s…that was a fun game
Tennessee High School Baseball Playoffs - A fight broke out between Elizabethton and Unicoi County in the TSSAA District 1-3A Losers’ bracket finale. The game has been suspended. Elizabethton was leading 11-9 in the bottom of the 7th. The TSSAA will review to see what punishments will be handed out (video in link - the fight started over runner interference)

That’s terrible.
The whole scene.
This is why I quit coaching youth league baseball/soccer
I had so much fun, and I loved coaching the kids, but…
I guess this falls under baseball miscellany–I met Dean Stotz, former Stanford baseball coach, over the weekend. A few interesting stories from him including how insanely talented John Elway was as a baseball player. He’s also followed Houston quite a bit and described how he texted former Stanford player Hinch prior to the seventh game of the 2017 WS against the Dodgers and told him this was the time to be aggressive and when he saw Bregman steal third early in the game it told him that may have resonated. He ran into Bregman at a golf event a few months later and Bregman confirmed that Hinch told the team they were going to take no prisoners that night.
I saw Elway play in a regional in Austin. He played RF and had a cannon for an arm. I do not remember him as much of a hitter, but man, what an arm.
That Stanford team had a Black CFer, and I think I can safely say he was speedy. He scored from second base on a fly ball to CF.
The UNC Wilmington battery teamed up for a pretty wild play yesterday. Love the reaction from the runner.
Wow!
Follow up to the fight in the high school playoff game. Tenn ruling body (TSSAA) called the game a double forfeit. Though both teams are talking about an appeal, it looks like the previous team eliminated will get to advance to the regionals. The punishments are below.
Elizabethton (team in orange whose kid threw the first punch) was fined $1,750 and placed on a two-year probation. The Cyclones were not placed on restrictive probation for the next two seasons (2023-24 and 2024-25) and therefore will be eligible to participate in the postseason tournaments.
Unicoi County (team in blue whose dugout emptied) was fined $1,250 and placed on a one-year probation. The Blue Devils will also be able to compete in the postseason in 2023-24.
I think the kid that threw the first punch should get additional punishment from his school. Kicked off the team or at least a few games suspension.
A big issue, not isolated to this incident, is when athletes square off the usual response is “hell yeah!”.
Not isolated to sports or physical confrontations for that matter.
Dateline Oklahoma: HS championship game of 3 game series.
According to twitter -
Late in the game a hitter puts his hand up to try and call time while the pitcher starts his motion home. Strike. Kid verbally freaks out on the ump and the catcher breaks them up. Kid then jaws with the catcher and the ump and is tossed.
So the team whose kid was ejected loses and in the handshake line, a kid in a uni but wearing shorts (injured?) sucker punches the catcher. The winning teams coaches deserve a raise - catcher runs away from the fight and none of his teammates punch back. I expect the coaches told the kids - don’t react to anything we need all of you for the next series and the kids did it.
Also saw it reported that the catcher went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs and picked off a kid at 3rd for the final out.
