I was thrilled when I saw the bottle with Mr. Stubblefieldās image on it in my local CA grocery. Stubbās BBQ was the best in Lubbock when I was at Texas Tech. That was before the fast-talkinā fellas from Austin talked him into moving there, and eventually taking over the brand.
His place in Lubbock was small and in a then rather dodgy neighborhood, but had great bluesmen go through like Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker and great BBQ. There was a sign above the stage that read: āTHERE WILL BE NO LOUD TALK OR BAD TALK IN THIS PLACEā. As Mr. Stubblefield was at least 6ā 4" tall and usually wielded at least one large meat cleaver the rule, to my knowledge, was never broken.
