Astros at Rangers, Labor Day 2023

I totally agree. That is why I stay away a good bit of the time and read it later.

15th back to back HRs this year - including a ML record - & only 3 team Kā€™s!

If youā€™re a bit sadistic, then enjoy THIS (2:00:04 - 2:13:13)

  • gradual realization the 1st six batters will score,
  • loved Tuckā€™s hit placement to LF
  • pointed out Jordan SLOW base runningā€¦
  • mentioned the Astroā€™s 7 August games w/ at LEAST SEVEN runs (a little prophetic hereā€¦),
  • ā€œHoly Moly! MY!ā€ (Seager)
  • ā€œThatā€™s hit well! Itā€™s GONE!ā€ (Diaz)

Delicious!

Complaining about the single biggest current problem with this Astros team is so dumb.

We should complain about the 28th player on the roster instead.

And why is he kessing her? Has she consented?

The problem with Dubon playing is that someone better is sitting.

Be had a greatvgame today, and has had several great games this year.

But the sum of his season pales beside Chasā€™.

And coming in to the game today, Chas sat 3 of the past 5 games and was PH for in a crucial part of another.

And Chas has been one of the 5 best players on this team all season long.

He should be above Dubon in the pecking order but heā€™s not.

Lefty initially posted only a link to the tweet, and since I know that not everyone around here uses the platform I decided to share the text of the tweet. File under No good deed goes unpunished.

The panel also would have accepted ā€œKessinger? I hardly know ā€˜er!ā€

Chill, dude. I was teasing you. Of all people, you should not be thin-skinned.

Argh. I just got this. Slow on the uptake, me.

Both of them started today.

Any word on Floribama/Stanekā€™s condition?

Yes and they both did great

They are all MLB players and any one is capable of a great and productive game.

But I still think Dusty is doing the Astros a disservice by playing Dubon more than Chas, or Diaz.

Dubon 112g
Chas 92g
Diaz 91g

Dubon saved this team when Altuve was out, but needed to go back to the bench when he returned.

Since Altuve came back from his broken thumb 5/19, Dubon is 7th on this team in PA despite being 12th in wRC+.

Only Julks and Maldy have at least 50 PA and lower wRC+ than his 83 in the time (.252 BA / .674 OPS.)

This is before today.

I guess if the Astros win the AL West, then Dusty will prove why he has won over 2K games and I am just a fan.

I donā€™t understand the fascination with Dubon in CF at all but using total games doesnā€™t really have a ton of merit here.
While I agree with your overall pointā€¦ the vast majority of Dubons games(until recently) have been at 2B. Chas also missed almost a month through injury. Dubon isnā€™t really taking games away from Diaz, thatā€™s Maldonado.

Truth is, Dubon did not play the OF at all until May 29, and didnā€™t play CF until July 30. So Dusty decided to add him to the CF rotation after Chas returned healthy and was playing like an MVP candidate.

Since July 30 CF starts:
Meyers 15
Dubon 12
Chas 7

7 of those games (21%), Chas did not start at all.

Prior to that game July 30, Chas had started 12 of 23 games in CF, another 7 in LF, 1 in RF and 1 at DH (91%) during July. Dubon started 83%, just not in the OF.

Also during those 23g Chasā€™ OPS went from .779 to .905. It has remains a very good .880 today.

Dubonā€™s OPS was .662 entering that 1st CF start and has remained below .700 until after yesterdays game when it jumped to .707.

So what happened the end of July to trigger this? Yordan returned from the IL

Dubon has started 47% of the games since while Chas sits 21% of all games.

If this team is going to win the division, Chas needs to play nearly everyday, especially when he is being replaced by a very average utility player who is a significantly worse CF in all aspects of the game.

*this post got too long to address Diaz.

As an non-Xer, I appreciate the effort. It takes a team to win.

July
C) Maldy 18 (72%), Diaz 7(28%)
August 1- current
C) Maldy 21 (66%), Diaz 11 (34%)

Total starts
July
Chas 22 (88%)
Julks 20 (80%)
Dubon 20 (80%)
Diaz 18 (72%)
Maldy 18 (62%)
Meyers 12 (48%)

August 1- current.
Chas 26 (81%)
Diaz 22 (69%)
Maldy 20 (63%)
Dubon 15 (47%)
Meyers 14 (44%)

Consider that Abreu, Altuve, Bregman, Pena, Tucker, and Alvarez are all playing 90%+ when healthy (Abreu started all 25g in July).

Chas and Diaz have been in the top 5-6 players on this team and should be given morecstarts, especially with Dubon and Meyers both starting close to half the games

Agreed. Diaz should play somewhere every day, and Chas should be in CF most days. If I am not mistaken, that is 40 homers on the bench when both sit. Fucking crazy.
