Astros @ Angels, September 20, 2021

There has been a lot of hard hit balls tonight.

I think that particular AB was just the Angels putting EVERYTHING on the outside corner.

Classic case of leading the hpu where you want him to go.

And another strong argument for Skynet to take over.

Comebacker ends the inning.
Still 2-0.

That is what I think also.

Well, if you can challenge without the appeal, the ball is still dead and the runner cannot advance. But appeals have to be during a live ball. The solution for the defense is an appeal before time is called on the play in question. But once time is called, and the ball gets back to the pitcher, you’re pretty much screwed.

So you think HPUs are deliberately screwing Astros because of sign-stealing?

Mayfield 6-3.

What does Yuli think when he sees Carlos double pump before the throw?

I do not think a challenge can happen until the ball gets back to P. I am not certain about this either.

Soft single to LF for Grizzly Adams.

Fletcher gets hit by a curve but couldn’t check his swing, grounds into a 6-4-3 dp

Fletcher with the rare PA where he’s hit by a pitch and grounds into a dp.

Who here has been to that stadium?

How does it compare to other parks?

No, I’m saying that if Altuve or Correa were getting crappy calls with the same frequency that it seems like Alvarez does, you could imagine that it was in retaliation for sign-stealing. But Alvarez had nothing to do with any sign-stealing, so I don’t understand why he seems to get more bad calls. Maybe it’s just because he’s more willing to take pitches that are off the plate, while Altuve, in particular, is willing to swing at anything, taking the opportunity for a bad call away from the umpire.

I took the family there to see Verlander pitch when he got to 3,000 strike outs. The stadium reminds me of the 60’s all purpose stadiums with a few rock formation, Jurassic Park upgrades beyond the outfield. The vibe there was pretty chill from Angels fans. The Astros fans took over the stadium that night.

My recollection of what my coaches taught me a long time ago (fair warning: my memory may be faulty), there can be no appeal until the ball is in play, and the ball can’t be put back in play until the P is on the rubber with the ball and the ump signals that it’s in play.

Ohtani 6-3 (shift to the right of the 2B bag)

Gosselin 6-3

This ump sucks

HPU missed another pitch completely ensconced in the outer 3rd of the zone.

ETA: another pitch that missed the spot, but it was low in the zone. I don’t think Maldy blocked his view but maybe.

Another 6-3 grounder ends the inning
