There’s a middle ground.
If you read more, post less there are lots of opportunities to learn. There is a wealth of baseball knowledge available from the posters here. This is a very intelligent, baseball-savvy place.
Overconfidence, lackadaisical aproach, nonchalant managing, fatigue, guys not doing their job, take your pick.
You never count out a champion. They stopped doing the shit things and started doing the good things.
Trying to find reasons for why the very same team can win 10 in a row and also lose 6 in a row, is a fools errand. Often there is no reason, other than sometimes shit happens. There also is the fact that sometimes, a team just plays really well when they have their backs against the wall. And the Astros certainly had their backs against the wall this week.
This is probably one of the biggest reasons the team “only” won 90 games. I believe a better manager would take care of the lackadaisical approach that we saw some this season.
Unfocused and struggling until there’s a crisis to respond to, Astros really ringing in ADHD awareness month in style.
Why were they inconsistent?
Because they WERE inconsistent.
Just like their fans, at least some of them/us…
Thank you Dennis Green
In their hearts, the Rangers always knew that this was going to happen.
I did not have the heart to talk to my die- hard Rangers fan friend yesterday, and, thank goodness, he did not call me. I do not talk smack before, and I do not gloat after, with anyone, and I damn sure do not do that with him. He lives and dies with his team, as we do, and he must have been heartbroken yesterday. He was my PONY League baseball coach when I was 13 and 14, and we go to ST together. We have been friends a very long time, and we talk baseball whenever we are together. We will talk about this someday too, but probably not today.
I’m keeping all my gloating to myself.
Always the best plan unless we are gloating here. On the TZ, gloat away.
IMHO way too early to gloat,
we just got to the PS…
I’ve got Rangers fans in my family.
Grace can be a virtue and a self preservation tactic.
I do not gloat or talk smack to any of my non-Astros friends, unless it’s in response to them. I have a few Yankee fan friends, who for some inexplicable reason want to go there, and it’s pretty easy to smack them down quickly. It’s all in fun though, as they are really super good dudes. I remind them that they are men of high virtue, just are misguided about their favorite baseball team.
My Rangers fan father-in-law texted me to say he was becoming a Royals fan after they swept us. I didn’t respond then and I’m not going to respond now.
See, this is when I’d text back and say “how’s that working out for you?”

“I guess now you have a World Series win to look back on”
I didn’t respond then and I’m not going to respond now.
You might just respond to wish the Rangers luck in the Wild Card series.
