Can we all go play at recess before the next math class?
I was always told to never do math in public…
It’s interesting that the five scenarios in which the Astros don’t make the postseason involve the Mariners winning 3 or 4, but the only scenarios in which the Astros win the division involve the Mariners winning 3 or 4. Especially after last night’s result.
This sucks both of these series being played way out west in the middle of the fucking night. Mrs Hawk made me play several hands of canasta because there was no game on. And I’m still waiting.
I’m so glad this is the last late-night game of the year.
Arlington fans must be sick to their stomach about this.
Bless their hearts.
@Duman That is hard to believe, much less explain!
It is all over the map, pulling a Lazarus at the end!
That would be a great graphic in the 2023 Astros’ story.
Would a time line of “significant events” like the ones included below help us understand this season?
- 'Tuve - played 19 May - 3 Jul & 19 Jul - to date
- Alvarez - 30 Mar - 8 Jun & 26 Jul - to date
- France - 6 May - to date
- Verlander trade - 5 Aug - to date
- Uncle Mike of IL - 29 Aug - to date
What else would be considered a significant event?
Relevance
The June struggles and the resurgence in July could certainly relate to 'Tuve & Alvarez returning.
Verlander’s presence certainly helped in Aug.
How much did Uncle Mike’s return energize the team in the stretch run?
But WHAT explains the rebound to the Division title?
The Astros underperformed for much(most?) of the season but were always the better team.
No question about under performing all year, but what explains the bottom falling out during late Sep? A combination of hacking and exhaustion during the stretch run.
How many young players were playing longer than they ever have this year? Would that make a difference?
WHERE did the rebound come from? Never expected it.
It was almost like they had to hit bottom b/f they could come back…
Like the Babe?
Seriously, I don’t understand it.
This is the same basic team that won 106 games and a World Series last year. It was never wise for anyone to count them out.
They may not win the World Series this year but I would never count them out.
You do not understand something? Shocking.
Mostly the same players, but not the same team. Isn’t each team different?
- Missed Brantley all year and 'Tuve/Alvarez for a chunk of time;
- Two starters out left the cupboard bare, revealing lack of SP depth
- Pena struggling and Abreu taking a while to find his stroke (well-timed and most welcome just b/f the playoffs, BTW).
- Bregman was consistent but unspectacular at the plate but great in the field
- Wonder how the defense compared…
- Would love to compare the playing time and IP by rookies this year compared w/ last year.
Jim, there are many things I don’t understand.
The scary part is not knowing what one doesn’t understand…l
