Even when JD was with the Astros I’d listen to Scully instead. Listening to him was pure baseball joy. I would also learn more about the Astro players through him than the hometown crew. No idea how he was able to do it but it seemed he had a knack for getting to know the players in a way other folks couldn’t.
Snuffy’s version feels more like a combination of rubbernecking and gloating that I can’t seem to understand.
Yes, that’s correct. Once the Mariners are crowned division champions, you look at cumulative head-to-head records between Houston, Toronto and Texas for the Wild Card spots. The Astros have the best at 12-8; Rangers second at 10-10; Blue Jays last at 5-9. Therefore, the Blue Jays would miss the playoffs in that scenario.
Speaking of our announcers on a whole I think they are great. I think Kalas is fine, not in the same ballpark as Bill Brown though.
I think a lot of what bugs me about Todd, is his lack of depth perception, he has a harder time than anyone I’ve listened to, discerning how far a ball is hit. Feels like every couple innings he gets all excited for an Astros hitter only for the ball to be caught 6 feet short of the warning track.
