If it were me, I’d keep Chas. But there’s little difference between the two, so whatever happens is fine.
I trust Chas much more. We’re not far removed from it looking like Meyers was destined for the minors
I got jumped over on Rivals for saying that Jake and Chas were essentially the same player.
Oh, the outrage.
I think management probably views Chad as the player that you know what you are going to get…solid for sure, However with Jake, beyond knowing he is well above average in terms of running down balls in the OF and that his arm may well be capped at below average…it’s the bat…yeah, someone in the front office believes there is still untapped upside there.
They are essentially the same for sure. There is ignorance everywhere!
There is the matter of the World Series heroics, a play only Chas makes
The WS catch was wonderful.
It’s still the wallpaper on my phone’s lockscreen.
But it’s a catch that many, maybe most, MLB CFers can make, just not always. I’m sure there’s a catch %age on it somewhere.
That does not diminish the fact that Chas did in fact make it. Perfectly.
He was a basketball player of some renown, so the catch timing might reflect that. Perhaps Jake makes that catch, but I know Chas did
Any percentage would not account for the fact that making the catch is very different than making the catch with the WS in the balance.
Either player moved for pitching is fine. Retaining Chas would be a sentimental choice
Chas made the catch, just like Mancini made the play. Would Jake have made that catch? Would Yuli have made that play on Schwarber? Would any other players have made them? Probably. Maybe. Maybe some don’t. Those plays potentially saved a World Series. They’ll always be special. Chas’s roster spot should not depend on that catch though. He’s fine with the glove. I think Jake is little better, but he has a wet noodle arm. For me it comes down to who can contribute the most runs, and I think Chas has the edge there.
I wont post on any other forum, just OWA. Every other Astros forum besides this one is populated by more than three idiots.
We have a three-idiot rotation.
It looks to my eyes that Jake sees the ball off the bat and instinctively knows where it’s going, allowing him to track it better. He usually just makes the necessary strides to make the catch. At that he is elite. Chas reacts well and is good at chasing down flyballs, slowing down or speeding up as he makes adjustments on the fly. And then there’s the noodle arm-which is a shame. And Chas’ current edge as a run producer.
I’m just jumping in here, so forgive me, but I find Jake’s noodle arm kind of shocking and hard to believe. It makes me wonder what all I don’t understand about a baseball team.
We are not seeking to sign any backup idiots.
That is the injured shoulder, isn’t it?
That’s what I attribute it to. I don’t recall his throwing being an issue before the injury.
As far as Jake’s arm goes. He probably saves more runs making tough catches than he gives up being victimized on sac flies. Runners taking an extra base on him is the problem.
Is Jake’s arm a fit for left field?
