Josh James’ velo was down in his appearance last night. Could mean he won’t be coming off the 60-day IL this month after all…
One hand sore? Two hands sore? No hands sore? My head sore? Well that one i can answer…yes.
Your Head Can Now Be Sore
After the game, Alvarez requested to speak with two reporters at his locker in the visiting clubhouse at Comerica Park. He did not want to be filmed but gave a direct contradiction to Baker’s description before the game.
“I just saw this morning that Dusty said that the reason for the day off is my hands are sore. Thankfully, my hands don’t hurt,” Alvarez said after the game through an interpreter. “They feel pretty good right now. I think there was some miscommunication. I was under the impression that it was just a scheduled off day, but thankfully, my hands feel good.”
This is twice now that he has had to correct his manager. The problem is, he’s doing it in public. It’s almost like he has no one to mentor him about this kind of stuff.
I am glad he is doing it in public. He also talked to Baker in private.
So Tommy John?
Any word on the roster move to activate JV?
Haven’t seen anything yet
The website shows him as the starter tonight. Martinez, I would guess will get bumped.
Correct
It’s interesting. Still nothing about James from the main Astros site. The latest injury update from today still says he is rehabbing:
- • RHP Josh James (right lat strain): James has made five rehab appearances with Sugar Land. He should be back with the big league club before the regular season ends.*
illness discomfort
FIFY
but couldn’t that be a good thing…like ill communication?
Don’t diss discomfort.
A tad surprising given he’ll turn 36 next year and the nasty history of that shoulder. Evidently he’s getting (or thinks he’s getting) some positive feedback on how it’s responding post-surgery. Still a heavily incentive-laden 1-yr contract is almost a certainty by whichever team chooses to sign him…

Brantley could swap roles with Alvarez and be a full-time dh. I miss his discipline at the plate, especially after this game
Bullet dodged or still in the chamber?
Only a pitch away, imo.
The pain of Phil Maton’s recovery must be amplified with the Astros and Nick’s Phils still in the playoffs - missing another possible match up.
