Aches, Pains and Muscle Strains 2021

Garrett Stubbs and Abraham Toro were the other two players who besides Straw who are currently out right now due to COVID health and safety protocols.

Which seemingly makes him a candidate for the 60-man IL if a 40-man roster spot is needed…

Josh James (left hip surgery) was at the complex in West Palm Beach last week and is feeling well. He might not return until June.

Bregman sitting today?

Always the plan from the start as the club prefers caution as he comes back from the hammy problem.

And Raley’s problem last night that had Machete calling for the trainer was a back issue.

Paredes did go on the IL today and Nivaldo Rodriguez was activated to take his place.

Sunday is an off day? WTF?

Yep. Posted in the game thread last night, but I saw somewhere that it’s the first Sunday off for the Astros in ~20 years.

Maybe covid safe travel required oddball schedules.

Maybe the commissioner got religion.

Thou shalt not put thy runner on second in extra innings

Right. That idea is from Hell.

There are four teams with a scheduled Sunday off this season. The Astros and A’s tomorrow, and the Padres and Angels off August 29th. None of the teams have to travel far afterwards (the Astros and Angels are in the middle of home stands), and there hasn’t been a scheduled Sunday off for any team in decades, I believe, including last year. So…not sure why it worked out that way.

So who might be available and when:

Cristian Javier – in 10 days (unless they’ve modified the rules about how many days you have to spend in the minors after being optioned)
Kent Emanuel – in 10 days (off restricted list)
Andre Scrubb – by end of April
Enoli Paredes – May
Framber Valdez – May
Pedro Baez – May
Josh James – May
Austin Pruitt – June

The crystal ball is considerably cloudy so take the May & June estimates with a considerable grain of salt.

Taylor to IL with sprained ankle, Peter Solomon up

Much was written about the 11 players who made their MLB debuts in 2020 for the Astros but 2021 is off to a healthy start in that department. Once Solomon gets into a game that will be the 4th MLB debut just so far this month. If Kent Emanuel gets called up once he’s off the restricted list in a week or so that could be #5.
