And just to add, Bregman has gotten 5th and 2nd ('18 and ‘19) in MVP voting. Carlos’ highest in 17th.
You’re right about all those stats, no argument there.
That’s not to say this hamstring/quad thing won’t become a lingering issue for Alex going forward, of course.
That was my point. If Carlos’ injury is so bad that we can’t POSSIBLY offer him a real long term deal, it probably fucking sucks that Alex’s injury seems to be on-going and we already threw $30m a year at him.
For 2 seasons. Carlos wants, what, 10 seasons?
If that’s actually true (10 seasons), then I agree it’s absurd. If it’s more like 7 years, at age 27, I think we should be serious about it.
Whoever we replace him with will almost certainly be a massive downgrade over the life of the contract and it ain’t my fucking money.
Oh, I definitely think we should be serious about it, and I definitely want him signed. I was just saying it wasn’t a fair comparison you were making between Alex and Carlos (my opinion).
I understand that TECHNICALLY the Astros are paying Bregman $30.5 mil for each of 2023 and 2024 seasons
But in big boy MLB, actual annual salary does not mean nearly as much as the annual average salary over the life of the contract.
Only $20 mil. Counts toward the luxury tax, and that’s all that the owner and front office care about.
Of course that could change if there is a new CBA, or the 2 sides can continue fucking around with each other until there is no season next year.
So who is your hot button here because you are edging toward that again.
No, not at all.
Urquidy leaves tonight’s game after 27 pitches.
I assume the arm path thing is to enhance his command but those better versed on pitching mechanics can correct me on that. Next stop Sugar Land to continue rehabbing…
He was definitely dragging his arm a lot in his last go round in the bigs.
His mechanics seemed to go wonky about 2/3 of his appearances.
Tossed 18 pitches tonight (15 strikes) in going 2 scoreless innings for the Skeeters with just 1 hit allowed and 1 punchout.
Joe Smith followed with a clean scoreless frame, whiffing 1. 11 pitches, 8 strikes.
This is good news. Really need Pruitt, Baez and James (never thought I’d say that again) back ASAP to evaluate where the pen stands before the deadline.
There is a big difference in the talent level of those two.
Correa has played in 76 out of 82 games this season and 134 of the last 142 if you include 2020
Just to throw a little napalm on the fire…look up the Stros lineup for tonight.
