Aches, Pains and Muscle Strains 2021

I did my ACL as well (also playing rugby). Six months of rehab to get back on the pitch and the first thing the physio had me doing was strengthening my quadriceps. That injury more or less ended my playing days, and the knee still isn’t 100% to this day. Hope you had far better luck!!

I think we should start a WTF Dusty thread.

It’s called the GZ

Get ready for Correa at 3B, Straw at Short, Yuli at 2B, Alvarez at 1B, and me applying an acetylene torch to my eyeballs.

Nope. Knee replacement in my future.

I mentioned exactly that scenario yesterday, and laughed it off. Fucking Dusty, really?

On my walk this morning I chose a podcast of a James Click interview with Robert Ford from a recent radio pre-game show. A couple of things jumped out at me. One is that it appears Baker is managing, for the most part, in-game decisions only where the front office is determining pitching rotations/usage, roster construction (not that unusual) but so many things that undermine what a manager used to do or do in consultation with the front office. Click didn’t even mention Strom one time when discussing the pitching staff. I was a little taken aback by what I was hearing.

Did they mention who makes pitching change decisions? Is that Dusty? Dusty and Click? Dusty, Click, and Strom? Dusty and the diseased squirrel that lives in his pocket?

They did not. And the squirrel died.

Impossible. If true, who keeps whispering “RAAAAAAAAAY Leeeeeeeeeee” in Dusty’s stupid ear every night?

The worst part is, it’s actually just a video of Rachel Ray’s cooking show Dusty has on in the dugout on a 15 inch TV with a built in VCR. It’s just on a loop of her quietly saying “Bay Leaves”, but Dusty don’t hear so good anymore.

I prefer Giada but that’s a solid choice

A messier 2nd appearance with the Peckers tonight: 3 runs on 4 hits allowed and 1 walk in 1.1 IP. 33 pitches, 21 strikes.

After tossing 33 pitches in his last outing with the Peckers, Austin Pruitt was pulled after 23 pitches* in his Sugar Land debut. Gave up 3 runs on 2 hits and a walk in 1/3 of an inning. Combined stats so far: 2.2 IP, 8 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 2 K.

*Mark Berman reporting that he was scheduled to throw 1 inning or 20 pitches (which is rather odd given the number of pitches he threw in that last outing which was over a week ago)

This jibes with what we’ve seen/not seen since 2019.

Hope he takes a much time as needed to get back at his full capacity.

If he comes back in exactly one month, Bregman will have missed 39% of the Astros games over the 2020-2021 seasons (to that point).

Correa, who we claim we can’t pay the same $30m/yr to, has missed less than 5% of the Astros games over the same period.

Alex Bregman, games played 2017-2019: 155,157,156
Carlos Correa, same: 109, 110, 75

The time period you are citing doesn’t even add up to a full 162 game season. And maybe the fact they are going to have to pay Bregman almost 30 million for '23 and '24 factors in to not being able to pay Carlos.

I still want them to search the couch cushions and whatnot to scrounge up the money for Carlos, but trying to pretend he’s more durable than Alex is a bit of a stretch.
