Aches and Pains 2024

Verlander is making a rehab start in Sugarland tomorrow night.

Great news. I hope he is healthy because he is badly needed on the team.

The diabolical plan to save innings on JV’s arm so he is fresh for the run and post season is coming together quite nicely, thankyouverymuch…

“We need to get him running. The light jog we’re seeing is a step in the right direction, but we want him to be pushing himself, cutting, doing all the outfield drills at max effort for us to put a timetable on when we can get him back.” – Espada

Most welcome, but what is the cost of each pitch?

To you, or any of us, exactly $0.00.

You bunch of cheapskates. I Venmo ten cents per pitch to Crane.

So you gotta wonder, Tucker has been jogging for months now. Maybe he should’ve just sat on his ass for 30 days and not done anything. It seems the Astros have potentially pushed another player too hard and too soon again.

The words “gotta wonder” and “potentially” are doing an awful lot of work in your post.

Tucker’s situation is just plain pissing me off at this point. I know we aren’t privy to the inner details and shouldn’t be, and I know injuries can be complicated, but this injury is peak 2020’s “Astros Discomfort Syndrome” and it drives me fucking nuts.

My hope is that he’s keyed into OWA lore and is making a tongue-in-cheek referenc…

….Nah.

Yeah. You’re probably right. Nobody in the Astros org has nearly as much sports medicine training as we do. Maybe one of us should volunteer to help them out?

If I didn’t mention that that’s a great article containing legit medical knowledge…I’m mentioning that now.

Why would we need legit medical knowledge when we have OWA

That crossed my mind, but BD’s masterpiece is one of my absolute favorite pieces of OWA lore and this didn’t quite hit it.

Looks like I got roasted yesterday! Nothing new for me around here.

I don’t think that’s the case. I just think they weren’t up front about the severity of his injury when it happened. It’s their right to not be forthcoming about injuries, but it leads to questions when a player doesn’t recover as fast as expected. Cristian Javier is another example. He originally went on the IL due to neck discomfort and that turned into a torn elbow ligament really quickly. Verlander has been out for almost two months with neck discomfort, and at first the Astros and Espada were saying he is day to day and the hope was to push his next start back a few days.

From Chandler Rome on Twitter:

Hello from Tropicana Field, where Kyle Tucker is doing some on-field work that has included crow-hop throws, short distance, side-to-side explosive movements, some jogging and taking fly balls in left field. It’s more than we’ve seen him do at any point since he went on the IL.

We haven’t seen him do anything since going in the IL. We haven’t seen him at all. We didn’t even know if he was still alive.

I’m guessing ‘explosive moments’ means stepping on land mines.
