A Republic, If You Can Keep It

The new buzzword (new to me, anyway) we’re getting is “workpoint”. You no longer have an office, a cubicle, a desk, or a workstation. You have a workpoint. It may be in an office, it may be on the park bench across the street from the office.

The Federal Aviation Administration has agreed to use SpaceX’s Starlink internet system to upgrade the information technology networks it uses to manage US airspace, raising new concerns about conflicts of interest for CEO Elon Musk in one of his other roles, that of recommending funding cuts at federal agencies, including the FAA.

Because the internet is so hard to get without Musk’s satellite service, right?

Meanwhile, DOGE is jut the epitome of government efficiency:

WASHINGTON (AP) — More than 20 civil service employees resigned Tuesday from billionaire Trump adviser Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency, saying they were refusing to use their technical expertise to “dismantle critical public services.”

“We swore to serve the American people and uphold our oath to the Constitution across presidential administrations,” the 21 staffers wrote in a joint resignation letter, a copy of which was obtained by The Associated Press. “However, it has become clear that we can no longer honor those commitments.”

The employees also warned that many of those enlisted by Musk to help him slash the size of the federal government under President Donald Trump’s administration were political ideologues who did not have the necessary skills or experience for the task ahead of them.

No shit, the AP didn’t need to add.

SWA jet avoids catastrophic collision at Chicago O’Hare (video in the link).

What she said.

That was 100% the private jet’s fault, not ATC.

Correct. But, like the DC collision, were they short in the tower such that an over-worked controller didn’t see the private jet moving when it shouldn’t be? In such circumstances, an extra pair of eyes might’ve spotted it before it became an issue.

Being short-handed in ATC is nothing new. The problem is that hiring new controllers or even keeping the ones we have is being made so much more difficult by the way they are being treated.

A GOP Rep was on Fox News, scoffing that federal employees might have a stressful job. As if ATCs, fire-fighters, military or secret service aren’t federal employees.

As if being a GOP rep is a stressful job. Just obey, that’s all. Any coward can pull that off.

They’re cutting Medicaid.

Trump announced today that he is offering immigration gold cards. Like a green card, but you just buy it for $5 million. He didn’t say who the money went to (video in the link).

Asked if a Russian oligarch could buy one, Trump said that he knows some of them and they are nice people.

Hey! What about an Agency CIO. Or meteorologist???

How stressful is it to open a window and look outside?

All federal jobs will become stressful when anything you do may piss off an increasingly erratic and vengeful Dear Leader.

If you’re a Russian I reckon it can get pretty darn stressful.

It would certainly explain the lack of Russian meteorologists.
