UHC spends about $100 million on lobbying. To paraphrase the late, great Harry Shand: they’ve put money in all their pockets.

Gulf Coast refineries were fitted with delayed coker units and hydrotreaters years ago to refine heavy, low grade oil. Including Canadian tar sand "dilbit’ (diluted bitumen). They are not suited for the light, sweet crude that comes from the “tight oil” produced from the fracking boom, so much of that oil is exported for refining elsewhere. U.S. refiners are not keen to incur the cost to re-fit their refineries for the light, sweet stuff so they don’t.
Gasoline’s price is goin’ up in America, but the price for America’s crude oil is not.
The next four years are going to be one chaotic, disgraceful act after another.

His first three years were a mess, including a trade war caused by his first round of tariffs that destroyed the farming community. He’d been gifted a thriving economy and failed to repeal ObamaCare, so what he did do was ludicrous, but mostly inconsequential.
Then the one and only true test of his presidency hit, the pandemic, and he shit the bed so hard that a million people died and the economy crashed.
The threats gathering around the world right now are Tolkeinesque. What the world looks like when he’s done is going to be dramatically different and not in a good way.

Soooo…shit is getting wild in South Korea.
Saturday the ruling party except for three people walked out of the impeachment vote so the movement failed to remove the president. Instead the party chief (unelected by the people) came out and said that President Yoon promises not to use his power anymore and his party will now assume all presidential duties. As you can imagine this is definitely illegal.
Soon after it was revealed that Yoon and his now arrested defense minister plotted to attack North Korea to force through martial law weeks before their attempt. The military refused those orders. It’s now being reported part of the plot was to use special forces dressed in North Korean uniforms to assassinate Yoon’s rival Lee Jaemyung.
This morning the Seoul police chief and police commissioner were arrested on seditions charges. President Yoon is being investigated for treason and has a travel ban. He is expected to be arrested as soon as today but the next few people in line are also being investigated for treason so they’re trying to figure out the logistics of the whole thing.
Meanwhile the people are flooding the ruling party with phone calls, text messages, and a mountain of funeral wreaths outside their offices with messages denouncing them. The next impeachment vote is this Saturday.

I was surprised they’re going with full blown treason charges. We’re not out of the woods yet though. The good news is the military refused orders in almost every situation. One story had a platoon of soldiers that was supposed to be preventing lawmakers from voting to overturn martial law stopping at a convenience store to have some instant ramen.
Hollywood says this plot is too ludicrous

Right?! I knew Yoon was a fucking idiot from the very beginning but I always expected him to get impeached for corruption. Turns out he’s an idiot and a lunatic.
