I wonder if it was all a ruse. She gets the headlines for fighting for her state and winning concessions, knowing that those things getting yoinked by the parliamentarian is not going to get anywhere near as well hyped.

I wouldn’t put her in the same class as Collins. She was recently discussing running as an Independent.
It’s really as simple as this.

Democratic leadership is trying to assassinate the character of Zohran Mamdani. He is a threat to the cosy status quo of big money influence that they still think will be a soft landing for them. They are deluding themselves.
Here’s is the age breakdown of voters in the primary:
Middle-aged and older voter turnout remained stable, but the under-30 turnout exploded, deciding the result. This is because Mamdani was espousing policies that appealed broadly, but especially to younger voters. When the likes of Hakeem Jeffries tries to taint Mamdani with the language of jihadists that Mamdani never used, all he is doing is cramming his own shrunken balls into a vise.
The old (in both senses) leadership of the Democratic Party has failed. They can either pass the torch in an effort to prolong the Republic, or they can try to hang onto power and lose everything.

FYI, ICE’s budget is currently around $4 billion - although it seems they have been spending far beyond that - but the Big Ugly Bill will increase it to just shy of $70 billion. They’re going to be rolling into neighborhoods in fucking tanks.

ICE, under the Department of Homeland Security, had a budget of $9.6 billion in 2024.

Meanwhile, the Senate has passed the bill.
Tillis, Paul and, shockingly, Collins opposed it but Murkowski - who was seen huddling with Thune shortly before the vote - voted in favor. Vance broke the 50-50 tie.
It now goes back to the House where the press thinks there is some possibility that it will struggle, but reality says they will all fall in line under pain of Tweet from Dear Leader.
