This seems like a totally rational, economy-friendly, looking-toward-the-future thing to do:
The Senate is about to vote on a bill that would raise electricity prices in every single state.
It would cut off America’s fastest growing sources of new electricity at a time when we need it most. Some states would see their bills go up by 20%+ as a result of this bill. https://x.com/curious_founder/status/1939078229584675052
The new Senate draft raises taxes on all wind and solar projects that haven’t begun construction today unless they are placed service by end of 2027 and navigate complex, likely unworkable requirements to prove they don’t use a drop of Chinese materials. After that, this bill ADDS A NEW tax on wind and solar projects that can’t prove the same. https://x.com/JesseJenkins/status/1938974653508448578
This is the opportunity here for sure. The ruling leaves loopholes in place for entire states to sue at once for relief from federal overreach. I’m not sure about this proactive example exactly (which I support) but it seems clear that the way forward is for blue states to bloc together. Iow, the way forward is directly back to 1860.
I work my ass off. I make a decent income. I have NEVER been more strapped for cash and living paycheck to paycheck than I am right now. I know I’m not alone, and I also know it won’t take all that much more before I start throwing my hands in the air on some expenses. Essential or not.
Spending generally rises but drops during time of significant uncertainty. In recent times, this happened during COVID and the 2008 financial crisis. And it’s happening again right now.
Sen. Thom Tillis is a total fuckstick. However, he did take a stand against furthering passage of Trump’s pile o’ shit bill and got beaten up by his colleagues for his trouble. Today he announced he’s not seeking re-election, suddenly creating a flippable seat in 2026.
Murkowski played the game and got a cornucopia of concessions for Alaska; basically exempting her state from some of the horrible shit in the bill. With that in the bag, she voted to progress the bill. Today the parliamentarian struck all her concessions from the bill because they weren’t even in the same zip code of shit that qualifies for a reconciliation bill.
