From what we were told in last week’s meetings, legally ICE has to show either an administrative or judicial warrant (the latter being signed by a judge and granting them entry/access to a private place of business or residence) when conducting a raid. Not sure if that requirement is followed for grabbing alleged terrorists off the street.
I think ICE cons people a lot of the time, stating that they have “a warrant” even though it’s an administrative one that does not allow them to enter premises without permission.
I think it’s rare that they have a judicial warrant - that does allow them to force entry - because being “illegal” is a misdemeanor. It would be like sending swat for an unpaid speeding ticket.
I’m sure they’re relying on that ignorance. The point was emphasized repeatedly in this Zoom meetings to ensure ICE have a judicial warrant (and that it was signed by the judge) when the agents show up. Otherwise, as the Dodgers staff did, tell them they’re not allowed to enter and you’re not authorized to grant them access.
I believe the judicial warrant is usually granted when a particular person of interest is involved, one who has a criminal record. Could be very wrong about that, of course.
They rely on ignorance when people are watching. When no one is watching, they do what they want. People they snatch do not get to challenge the legality of their arrest/detention, so why should they worry about warrant semantics?
Just a matter of time until ICE is at Daikin Park. How does that make you feel, fellas?
Trump sends his Juneteenth well-wishes:
“Too many non-working holidays in America. It is costing our Country $BILLIONS OF DOLLARS to keep all of these businesses closed. The workers don’t want it either! Soon we’ll end up having a holiday for every once working day of the year. It must change if we are going to, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” Trump wrote in a post on his Truth Social platform.
He doesn’t pay his employees for holiday leave so why the fuck does he care about them taking off Juneteenth?
Eh, oh…
You could’ve stopped right there.
Your daily dose of Abbott hypocrisy.
$3B for 64.4 miles of completely ineffectual “wall”. Some contractors, who I’m sure are not politically connected at all, made out like bandits on this one.
Speaking of Abbott, Texas is about to green light watering crops with frack water. In a similar vein, Trump is about to roll back the ban on asbestos (most of which comes from Russia).
It seems they are on a mission to prove Joni Ernst right.
Could you give a citation for the frack water?
I went to the Tribune to search and saw that Texas taxpayers are fronting 5 million to address oil field equipment theft in the Permian. What was particular interest to me was the legislative sponsor’s (Darby) rationale:
“In a statement to The Texas Tribune, Darby called oil field theft “a complex, highly coordinated criminal enterprise, often with direct connections to cartels. This escalating threat poses serious risks not only to the oil and gas industry — a cornerstone of our state’s economy — but also to the safety of our communities and the survival of small, hardworking businesses.”
They use the same playbook so often. Even something obscure as oil field equipment theft is blamed on cartels. Is more likely a cartel of meth addicted ex oil field workers.
He learned that by watching Landman.
I haven’t seen the show, is that actually a theme in it?
The law was signed a few days ago. Don’t worry, the water will be treated before use.

A new law signed by Gov. Greg Abbott will allow oil companies to treat and sell fracking wastewater, which could include refilling Texas bodies of water with wastewater.
The water could be reused for irrigating crops or could be poured into streams and rivers in the state.
I was afraid of this. Limiting liability for novel treatment methods and putting the TCEQ in charge of regulating this is a recipe for fucking disaster.
Here’s the Tribune article from last month:
What could possibly go wrong? I think I’m going to have to get serious about finding somewhere else to live.
I’d like to see a presser where they go to the output of the treatment system and fill glasses for Abbott, Patrick and Darby.
That’s almost $9,000 per foot. That’s more than I paid for my fence.
It’s the central theme. The show is about how the oil business and organized crime divide up the territory and work together. It’s about as realistic as Star Wars.
