A Republic, If You Can Keep It

Apropos of nothing, the history of commercial banana trade is wrought with corruption.

Not only corruption, but death and violence via a friggin WAR. Bananas are no joke.

ā€œThe Fish that Ate the Whaleā€ is a good quick read on that subject.

No, but I’m going to the protest this weekend so I’ll be sure to watch for murderers. Arkansas murderers typically are easy to spot though, or smell, so I’m relying on my keenly tuned survival senses to keep me safe.

Plus, who knows, maybe Governor Sopo-Eye can call out the Guard to keep us safe.

From the Boomtown Rats, obviously.

It seems that the Trump regime hasn’t done the paperwork necessary for official deployment, so they aren’t officially deployed, so they aren’t getting paid.

Of course, not paying people doing work for him is classic Trump.

The FIFA Club World Cup kicks off on Saturday in Miami. Why am I posting this here? Because CBP and ICE agents will be on the ground checking the credentials of those attending.

Papers please…

What would stop FIFA, or any national team, from saying ā€œour players are not coming overā€?

The Thenardiers are supposed to be on the stage.

FIFA’s complete indifference to human rights?

Yeah, good one, but what else?

FIFA? Nah.

Teams? This is the Club World Cup, so it’s individual FCs rather than national teams, but there is nothing - aside from FIFA’s ire - to stop them from not coming. I doubt many/any will refuse to play, though, because there’s a big bucket of money from the TV rights from which to gorge.

The World Cup is next summer - shared between the US, Mexico and Canada - and I think it is far more likely that national teams will refuse to play games at US venues, citing the risk to fans following the team. I truly hope this happens.

No one should be sending teams to the US for the World Cup or for the Olympics.

You can tell a fake add when you see it, right? One built solely to make a point or statement by the opposition, right?
