A Republic, If You Can Keep It

Yeah talk about a self-own.

We sincerely live in the dumbest of all the timelines.

This boils down to two things in my view:

  1. “It’s the economy, stupid” is as true today as 30 years ago.

  2. Post 9/11 (esp Patriot Act) showed that Americans would rather feel safe than be free. This is a manifestation of that.

I’m repeating what I was told, not rationalizing it. Also, two basically said they are pro choice but she made it too much of an issue. And she is “pushy”. Basically “I don’t need some other woman telling me what’s what”. I guess men doing so is at least tolerated. It’s a strange dynamic.

The “Uncommitted” movement will now get to watch as Netanyahu bulldozes Gaza into the sea. Jill Stein voters will get to watch as Trump hands over vast swaths of federal land for exploitation and possibly nukes a hurricane.

Congrats to them. Their protest votes will bring about the very thing their vote was protesting.

Pretty sure I said this on a thread today.

Oh, completely understood.

Misogyny. This is misogyny. I guess not only men can be brainwashed by bigotry.

“Women are more emotional” exists because we long ago decided that anger is not an emotion.

Joe Biden is now a lame duck president with immunity. He should pardon his son for starters.

At least they didn’t say “their periods attract bears”.

I wish you were wrong, but you aren’t. Sometimes, you have to take one for the team for the greater good. Some members of the Democratic Party don’t understand that.

You can’t fix delusional nor hypocritical. I suppose all three of your female colleagues either don’t lead teams in your office nor have a desire to do so?

I’m gonna go out on a limb and suggest that they are simply lying. They were going to vote for Trump anyway.

Another takeaway from last night is how much redder Texas has become: +14 for Trump this time vs +6 last time, and a +9 victory for Cruz. We’re much more on the Florida trajectory than we are turning purple. Living in Austin, I don’t sense what’s happening statewide, but something is.

Start by looking along the Rio Grande.

I agree that’s a big shift, but is there enough people down there to account for that dramatic shift from 2020? I’m not even sure that the Hispanic shift at a statewide level can account for it.

I read somewhere that Harris underperformed Biden in every single county in the entire US. Not sure if that’s confirmed but I have been spot-checking the electoral map and I haven’t seen anything to refute it.

I’m sure there are some shifts at play, but I think the problem was the ticket itself. NC elected Dems to multiple statewide offices, yet broke for Trump.

I posted this on Facebook this morning.

Good morning Meta family.

The election is over. I realize the Democrats aren’t going to let it go for awhile yet, but it’s over.

Democrats: I hope this result will teach you that American’s require real work. If you want the vote, earn it with genuine policy plans and communication.

"He’s terrible " will not earn you votes because it shows you really aren’t enough better to matter. Americans deserve better. You did a piss poor job of convincing us that you were the right choice to heal our country and lead us for the next 4 years. You did a piss poor job of convincing us what your ideas were and how (even if) you were going to accomplish them.

You have failed the American people in your job of protecting us from this cancer and from ourselves.

You have 4 years to learn from your mistake and reshape yourselves into the kind of people Americans can trust and believe it. If you can do it sooner, the mid terms in 2 years would be great.

Republicans: despite them deserving it, try not to bask in your victory and punish those who treated you so badly. Much of it was deserved, and you weren’t any better about how you treated them. And in the end, it hurts US, the American people you have pledged to serve, as much as any of them.

Try to respect the positions the American people have given you. Realize your roles are to serve us and not your own interests. Do your best to unite all of us and not continue to foster division.

And above all, let’s all stop hating each other and find some common ground as Americans. As brothers and sisters.

I wish I had hope, but it doesn’t hurt to ask.
