The GOP is now (and has been for a while) entirely performative bullshit and nonsense. I’m not saying that Dems should follow them all the way down, but no one is reading their think pieces or listening to their appearances on left-leaning podcasts. They need to show that they’re fighting.
Maybe a walkout wasn’t the best idea, but sitting there meekly while your colleague is thrown out of the people’s house for exercising free speech is certainly a show by Dems. A show of impotence and weakness…with sad little handheld signs.
I get it, but my main point is that it’s no longer about the Dems fighting, it’s all about the Republicans fighting back. I realize that’s a slim chance, but all Dem actions should be about messaging that gets Republican voters pissed. They’re the only ones who have any power to save the country. I’m not sure Green’s actions did much to put pressure on Republicans.
I do not believe i would call that unpunishable free speech. Asking him to leave was totally appropriate, but it should have happened to MTG v. Biden too.
I grew up listening to the Houses of Parliament, where they have a sword line to keep the members just far enough apart so that they can’t stab each other at arm’s length. Sitting quietly while a blowhard insults and demeans you and, more importantly, your country is the unusual behavior to me.
You’re absolutely right that that the GOP happily let their howler monkey caucus - going back to Joe “you lie” Wilson - routinely make a spectacle of themselves without any pushback. It’s all part of the GOP’s ratchet, where they push past “normal” when they want but lock everything down when they don’t, allowing things to move only in one direction to only their benefit.
Good for you and the UK. Here, there is no first amendment right to disrupt by trying to shout down a speaker. The signs were perfectly ok. Both Greens should been removed, not only one.
Also, it’s astounding to me that anyone is still arguing on behalf of institutional decorum. It just demonstrates how badly many continue to misunderstand the moment.
This is the other side of the gerrymandering coin: safe-seat Democrats not wanting to upset the status quo (while the other side takes a sledgehammer to the status quo).
Leadership is “very unhappy” with those who went beyond traditional protest tactics like outfit coordination and refusal to clap, a senior House Democrat told Axios.
Roughly a dozen Democratic disruptors — including Reps. Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.), Jasmine Crockett (D-Texas), Maxwell Frost (D-Fla.) and Maxine Dexter (D-Ore.) — were called into a “come to Jesus meeting” on Thursday morning, the senior Dem told Axios.
Outfit coordination? Why didn’t Ghandi think of that!
So Hesgeth has begun his DEI purge of the military by removing photos and reference to anything he thinks is DEI-related, or woke, or whatever other concept he clearly doesn’t understand. This includes references to Medal of Honor winners with Hispanic surnames and references and pictures to anything with the word “gay”, including soldiers’ surnames, and the Enola Gay, the B-29 bomber that dropped the first atomic bomb (as you probably know, the airplane itself was not homosexual, but named after the pilot’s mother).
BTW, Hesgeth’s order also removes pictures and reference to the Tuskegee Airmen, as they were all woke and epitomize that dastardly concept known as DEI, though there may be enough squawking about that one to at allow them to at least remain acknowledged by the U.S. military, though certainly not celebrated.
In other news of Trump’s overinflated opinion of himself…
Apparently, Trump demanded that the original signed Declaration of Independence be moved from its secure home in the National Archives to the Oval Office for his admiring. It was quite the effort to get him to understand the logistics, if not the existential risk, of such a task and eventually back off, though it’s probably not over. I’m guessing Putin has indicated he would pay A LOT of money for it.
Meanwhile, Trump still doesn’t understand how NATO works.
The list of things that Trump doesn’t understand is infinite. He also doesn’t understand the concept of “infinity”, so his stupidity is infinity +1.
He is so fucking dumb that you can just say “he is so fucking dumb” and everyone - without additional context - will know exactly who you’re talking about.
