Didn’t he retire as an Astro.
He did. He was on that '86 team.
My first baseball heroes were Dodgers. Of course I was 7.
My first team was the Brooklyn Dodgers, and they were my team until they moved to LA.
You matured and saw the light, Neil.
The only Dodgers I ever cared for were most of the ones that also played for the Astros. Wynn, Sutton, Lopes, Ferguson, Greinke… etc. and Valenzuela. Always hated the franchise. I go back and forth on which I hate more the Dodgers or the Yankees.
It was Sandy Koufax and Don Drysdale. It’s hard not to like Sandy Koufax, maybe Drysdale not so much.
Accurate.
Reddick.
Who hated his time there.
Koufax was and is my favorite player of all time.
I’m reminded that César Cedeño, unfortunately, took his last major league at bat as a Dodger.
True, but that does occasionally come in handy in Immaculate Grid.
And a class act. I had a Dodger’s parents living down the street from me when I was a kid in Corpus. Bart Shirley, UT ex, would come visit his folks during the offseason and would come out and play ball with us on the block. We’d throw around a baseball or football and amazingly he would remember our names. On one of the trips to Houston to catch a game Bart was the starting 3B for the Dodgers that day. Big thrill for me. Sadly, Bart passed away a few months ago.
Former Astro great and manager, Phil Garner, 76.
Rest easy, Scrap Iron.
Pancreatic cancer’s unbeaten streak continues.
Fuck cancer.
RIP “Scrap Iron”…
Can’t think of Garner without thinking of Chuckie Carr.
I can’t think about Garner and not think about 12 hits in the ‘79 World Series. The “We Are Family” Pirates were a great thing for baseball.
So were their hats.
