I think that was my favorite quote from Fitzwallace… that or his “I don’t know when it’s peace time or war” bit. Such a great character.
Amos was also fantastic in his heel turn in Die Hard 2.

Yall are seriously underrating his performance in Beastmaster
Ozzie Virgil, Sr.
I remember his son was a pretty MLB good catcher. Don’t really know Sr’s career as well. But I remember him being one of if not the first Dominican to play in MLB.
Virgil, Sr. was the first Dominican born player in the American or National League (prior to that, Dominican players were limited to the Negro Leagues), making his debut for the Giants in 1956. He was also the first black player for the Tigers, who were the penultimate team to integrate in 1958.
The only sport that matches baseball for wasting paper is fly fishing, and the very amusing fly fishing writer, John Gierach, died October 3. He was a great storyteller.
Damn.
I’ve been reading his stuff for 30 years.
The solution to any problem -work, love, money, whatever -is to go fishing, and the worse the problem, the longer the trip should be.
If people don’t occasionally walk away from you shaking their heads, you’re doing something wrong.
I used to like fishing because I thought it had some larger significance. Now I like fishing because it’s the one thing I can think of that probably doesn’t.
Cell phones have changed us from a nation of self-reliant pioneer types into a bunch of men standing alone in supermarkets saying, ‘Okay, I’m in the tampon aisle, but I don’t see it.’
Flea
Not that one, it’s some other guy that goes by that name
Monty “Flea” Bodine, from the St Louis area band, Judge Nothing.
Yeah a buddy of mine tells us Flea died, I do a quick check and see “Legendary bassist Flea dies” as I’m getting ready.
Let’s see if I can say this gracefully.
I’m glad RHCP’s Flea is still with us.
I’m sorry for the other Flea’s family/friends loss.
I would also kindly ask any and all bassists to cease and desist from using the name Flea.
El Tiante. He was 83.
He was the pitching coach for the SA Missions when I was in high school. He had such a magnetic personality.
Oh man, he was great. After Marichal, my all time second favorite pitching windup. He should be Hall of Famer.
Once upon a time, Johnny Pesky was a close friend of a friend and became a friend of mine. At Arlington, I was in the Red Sox clubhouse with Pesky’s longtime friend and was introduced to Tiant. He was submerged to his chin in the whirlpool and was smoking a cigar which looked like a sequoia.
