One built a hospital in Africa and the other built a storefront museum to himself in Cooperstown.
I will add that I hope Rose did more to help others than weâve been told about and I hope those close to him can find some comfort in a difficult time.
My HS baseball coach got to know Rose when he got called up to the Reds for a stint in the â70s as a backup catcher.
He didnât have a lot of nice things to say about him.
That being said, I wish Roseâs family peace and comfort in a sad time for them.
I admired his ability to get hits. He did hustle when he was a young ballplayer. Thatâs pretty much all the nice things can think to say.
Yeah, that thought doesnât thrill me.
John Amos, 84.
Apparently he passed in August but the family just made it public.
Perfectly respectable but there were some sad issues among and within the family reported over the years.
John Amos played a great comedic dad in Good Times. I used to watch GT with MY dad, who I always thought may have had underlying racist tendencies. Dad LOVED that show, and would laugh apoplecticly as John Amos would strain to keep from exploding at the situations that crossed his path. I felt like that show helped him move past the shortcomings of his 40s-50s upbringing.
Another Norman Lear offering.
My exposure to Amos is really limited to âComing to Americaâ. He was fucking hilarious in that movie.
Die Hard 2?
Wow! Yes.
I really liked Amos in The West Wing.
I was based at Dulles at my first airline 20 yrs ago.
We used to joke about how fast they rebuilt things after Die Hard 2
Donât forget Roots.
âYouâre talking to me about international law? The laws of NATURE donât apply!â
McGarry: âYou have any problem with a young black man waiting on the President?â
Fitzwallace: âIâm an old black man and I wait on the President.â
â The problem with that is thatâs what they were saying about me 50 years ago - blacks shouldnât serve with whites. It would disrupt the unit. You know what? It did disrupt the unit. The unit got over it. The unit changed. Iâm an admiral in the U.S. Navy and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff⌠Beat that with a stick.â
