2023 Roster

Translation: In the last two seasons, including the Regular Series and the playoffs, Ronel Blanco has a record of 8-0, with 10 saves, 0.00 ERA, in 48.1 IP and 43 games pitched. That’s one of the best performances by a reliever over two successive seasons in Dominican League history.

Another name for the 5th outfielder mix. Bats lefty. I know nothing else about this player one way or another.

So the Astros have Bligh Madris and Christian Javier. What a Bounty.

Holy shit, nice.

Madris’ last few months:
Sept. 13 – DFA’d by Pirates
Sept. 16 – claimed by Rays
Nov. 15 – DFA’d by Rays
Nov. 18 – claimed by Tigers
Dec. 21 – DFA’d by Tigers
Jan. 3 – Acquired by Astros for cash

It’s a though he’s been cast adrift.

OK, I’ll stop now. Really. I’m going to stop.

I wikied him because it was a last resort

Well, now I have to pull for him: Colorado Mesa University is in Grand Junction, CO, one of the places where I grew up (and mihoba, too) and where my brother still lives, and home to the JUCO World Series.

Roster at 39 with the Bligh acquisition (21 pitchers, 18 position players).

Gurriel?

“Friend’s” post about Madris…
" He is a project. They want to make some changes to his swing and approach. They think there is a decent chance that they can get him in position to drive the ball more and to not increase his strikeouts to the point that he isn’t playable."

Where is Yuli???

I have seen nothing on him since the season ended. Are the Astros talking with him? He should have been sewn up long ago. Have any other clubs shown interest?

Maybe he wants to be a full-time player.

This is what I’ve been thinking…but also thought by now (or close to it) he’d of gotten a chance to get the lay of the land and see if there are greener pastures out there…or not.

Also, I’m hoping Cubs grab Hosmer. They were one team I have been worried might give him a starting gig and also be categorized as competitive. Also a little worried about Baltimore. They are turning the corner as a franchise (similar to ‘17 Stros squad that added Reddick & McCann) and I could see Elias looking at Gurriel as the veteran type that can help show their youngsters how to win.

Which is true about him

I would feel better if we knew Crane has the Astros offer to him on the table.

My “friend” when someone said Madris is a wasted roster spot.

"People asked the same thing about Montero.

The Astros have the space on the 40, and I don’t think they plan on giving him years to figure it out- he does or he doesn’t figure it out this season or they move on."

My “friend” when asked about Yuli.

“I haven’t heard anything recently about Gurriel and the Astros. I know that he was looking for a starting job after the Astros got Abreu, but I am not sure there is one out there for him. The market for “rehab” first basemen is pretty thin because there are still a lot out there. I think the Astros would certainly give him an invite the Spring Training if he goes that route, but the reality is that at his age, being a utility bat isn’t likely.”
