He’s pitched exactly 1 big league game in July of 21 and his minor leage nunbers are… not great. Minor league depth piece would be my guess
It’s too early for any teams to realistically be motivated to move big league pieces. I do wonder what it would take to get Giolito from the White Sox or Keller from the Royals. Both would be rentals, so it shouldn’t cost a ton of prospect capital. Probably have to make it at least another month before any trade could really be contempated.
The Astros are going to have to find some consistent offense to have any reason to be interested in starting pitching as we near the deadline.
It’s official. Blanco sent down to make room for France.
Maybe they want to stretch him out fully
I don’t see any downside to that.
The chances of either France or Bielak being less than average are pretty good, and having options if that is the case only makes sense.
Now would be a good time for Jose Abreu to wake up and Alex to start getting more than just walks.
Either way, it looks like the cavalry is on the way as far as the lineup goes so hopefully a slight downturn in starting pitching will still be enough.
Chas activated; Bannon to SL per MLB transaction page.
It looks like Fried from Atlanta may have a long IL stint.
I would like to see Brown make a deal for some starting rotation depth.
The competition will only get steeper
I’m all for that.
But who would be selling in May?
More importantly, what what they be selling?
Exactly. It’s too early. We will have to wait a littler later into the season when more teams fall out of the running. For all the hand wringing about the pitching, and I’m doing my fair share in my head, the hitting has been the biggest issue. With all the pitching issues we are just 4.5 back. Not great, but if we were hitting like we are capable, we would have a 1-2 game lead in this division.
We need to get Brantley and Altuve back asap. That should spark the bats and hopefully, the team. We just have to keep this thing out of the ditch over the next month to month and a half and we will have a clearer picture. If we get 7-10 games back, that’ll be a little unnerving. We aren’t there yet.
One more thing. The talk on here about moving Jake or Chaz for a pitcher ain’t gonna cut it. It’ll take way more than that. We need to hope that Lee continues to tear it up in Sugar Land. He plus one of Jake or Chaz is what it’ll take and I’m not sure that gets you more than a back end of the rotation arm.
That package isn’t going to get you a prime arm. It’s going to take those guys plus more pieces if we want something better than what we’ve got, unless Brown can swindle a team.
I keep looking at which teams have little to no playoff chances.
Both Fangraphs and Baseball Reference have less than 6% playoffs for
White Sox
Royals
A’s
Nationals
Reds
Rockies.
Fangraphs has Tigers at 4%, but BR gives them 17%
BR has Marlins at 1 1/2% but FG gives them 17%
From those teams, Giolito who is a rental still looks like a good bet.
Maybe a package of 3 mid level prospects gets it done? Like Misael Tamarez, Joe Perez, and Corey Julks? A Pitcher, inf, and OF all between 10-20 in MLB pipeline rankings and all ready or close to ready for MLB by next season.
At the deadline, maybe 2 prospects gets it done but with so much season left it may take 3
For sure, which I why I said that won’t get you more than a back end of the rotation arm at best. If you want an impact arm, it will be those two plus Dirden and Gilbert…or something along those lines.
Last year the Twins gave up their #7, 18, and 23 prospects at the deadline for Tyler Mahle who had 1 year of control left
I did not mean only one of them. I meant as a part of a package. I did not think I needed to explain that.
Altuve in Sugar Land tonight, coincidentally on Altuve World Series ring giveaway night.
Mushinski activated off the IL, Gage optioned.
I liked what I saw from Gage. Looking forward to more next time he’s up.
From my “friend” haven’t had much lately.
New The Astros front office anticipates being active at the trade deadline.
Communication between front office/field/owner very strong and on same page for needs.
They have already reached out to other teams.
Primarily want a starting pitcher, bat and possibly reliever.
Will not force a bigger trade, but have finances short and long term to add someone.
Have spoken to teams about well thought of pitchers with some control left - Sale and Cease. Some concern over the amount of hard hits Cease has given up but fixable. Others possible at reasonable cost like Giolito, Stroman, Singer.
Offensively mostly have looked at guys that can play the corner outfield, some possible 1st and DH. White Sox discussing moving Eloy Jimenez… McCutchen mentioned.
Astros willing to move some players off their big league roster if it helps the team.
