2023 Roster

Chas now has 2 years and 230 games of slightly above average offense and at least average CF defense. He’s shown to be starter quality to me.

And people don’t run with impunity on Chas.

I had forgotten this, but he did play some at 2B in the minors.

France getting called up according to Berman, no word that I have seen on who is going down.

Going down or onto the IL?

Unless somebody got hurt on the off day, I’d imagine it’s somebody going down. Gage probably if I had to guess

The way this season has gone so far, this wouldn’t surprise me.

Rome says France is getting the start on Saturday against the Sea Hags. I’m anxious to see this. He seems to have good stuff.

Bracing for the worst on Garcia but hope I’m wrong. If he’s going for a second opinion, I’m thinking TJ surgery is imminent.

I’ll be there to give my scouting report

I was thinking Garcia/Urquidy were both going to be on the IL. Maybe they are and I missed it, which is highly possible.

Urquidy already is, I think.

They both are.

I believe the report on Urquidy was that they were convinced that it’s muscle inflammation below and behind the shoulder and nothing more “serious”. No throwing for 10 days, which started maybe three (?) days ago. So in theory he could start throwing at the end of the week and maybe be back 10-14 days after that, i.e., around Memorial Day.

Garcia worries me more. I don’t recall any instances of elbow soreness/tenderness taking somebody to the IL and then just clearing up. Maybe that happened with McCullers? But even if so, it took months.

No idea if this is the same situation, but Whitley will not make his scheduled start today. France got skipped (yesterday, iirc) preceding his callup and start Saturday. Stros starter is TBA for Sunday.

Interesting……

Bielak replaced Urquidy and almost started.
France is replacing someone to start Saturday.
Gage came up as a Garcia stop-gap, but as noted, he is a reliever.
Someone has to go, and I think it will be Gage. Then if Whitley does show up to start on Sunday, someone else has to go. Bielak is the obvious choice, but having a guy in the pen who can go 4+ innings might be wise. Maybe someone else has options? Blanco maybe??

Astros acquire Nick Allgeyer from the Phillies. Mostly a AAA pitcher.

Per McTaggert

Brantley and Chaz rejoin the team in Anaheim.

Bielak will start Sunday and Diaz will catch France tomorrow.

So much for the Whitley rumor. So ,… Is Allgeyer bound for Houston? Or (more likely) AAA depth to avoid rushing pitchers from AA?

Pure minor league depth, from what I’ve read.
