2023 Roster

I think Jimenez makes sense for this team because he is much better against RH pitching and always has been.

His AAV next year would be $13M and club options in 25 and 26 for $16.5M and $18.5M respectively. $3M b/o

Since he is 90% DH / 10% LF player atv his stage he could become an issue if Yordan has to DH more often for whatever reason. Especially if he is productive and his option(s) is picked up. That would be a good problem to have.

Jimenez spends a lot of time on the IR but when he is healthy he has been pretty good.

MLB.com says Shane Bieber may be available as well

You can’t beliebe everything you read.

I still think that considering the few potential impact players in the Astros organization, and the cost of players with years of control remaining, Giolito is the best target.

My two cents, which is worth about a penny. Agree about Giolito. Sign me up for that. I wouldn’t turn down Cease but he’s gonna cost more with another year of control beyond this one. Might be a good to have him for another year though given LMJ’s status and the uncertainty regarding Garcia. For me, no to Sale. Way too much money for a guy who can’t stay healthy lately. Doesn’t make sense to not pay Verlander and then turn around and pay Sale. Now I know the dollar comparison between those two isn’t that close, but still, I’d rather pay JV what he got than Sale his $27.5M. I just don’t trust Sale.

I like the thought of Stroman but not much else. He looks good on paper, but he’s Carlos Gomez on the mound for me, and I just don’t want to watch that.

Another few posts from my “friend”

Was told tonight the Astros are being very aggressive looking for bats…. Priority over another starter.

( someone brought up Luis Robert)

The Astros have the players to get Robert if they want to. He is very talented and has a good contract at only 25 years old. However he doesn’t have the best reputation around the league and is viewed as a poor worker and a distraction or worse in the clubhouse.

( someone asked if Astros were looking for LF or 1B)

Did not specify - only said right now priority is offense over pitching and have been aggressive looking for a bat. Astros overall winning so don’t have to be desperate but priority is to improve offense. No idea on Brantley could be hitting soon but not willing to count on him being healthy and ready down the stretch. If he is, then added to the mix.

I really expected the priority to be a starter but isn’t.

No one with Astros knows McCullers status. Was in low to mid 90’s when he felt pain. Early next week they will have him scanned and know where he is at.

Bielak and France are holding their own.

This remains an elite run preventing team and a below average run scoring team. By all means, address the offense. And the thought that anything Brantley contributes is a bonus reflects my thoughts since ST.

Add LMJ to that list.

He’s a competitor and a clubhouse leader but his arm seems to be in a bad way.

Robert brings some enticing offensive numbers but yes, the clubhouse issue is a concern. He’s young and talented enough though that if he didn’t work out in the clubhouse, you could still move him if you had too. I think the Astros’ veterans might could be a good influence on him though.

The only other thing that bothers me about him, is the swing and miss. A 30% K rate is not how we’ve built our success, and that 30% probably jumps come playoff time, should we be there.

The biggest issue I have with Robert is that he doesn’t really address the issue of run production vs RHP.

He is only slightly better than average (.740 OPs, .721 is current avg ) vs RHP this year and .753 for his career.

What this team needs is a DH/LF who can and should hit .800+ vs RHP.

I miss Brantley.

vs RHP. / vs LHP

K rate= 22.8% / 18.0%
R / game = 4.3 / 4.8
AB / HR = 33 2 / 28.0

We had one.

And another.

Yuli has a career .765 OPS vs RHP including .606 last year.

Siri has a career .726 despite a huge start this month propping that number up.

Neither really fit that role.

Mushinski optioned, Blanco called up to start tonight.

I guess Dana Brown has talked to several teams about adding a bat.

The consensus has been : its too early we aren’t sure what we want to do yet.

Also many organizations are focusing on the draft rather than MLB roster construction right now.

I would think both would be a high priority for any team that thinks they have a chance of making the post-season but I could see shitty teams waiting until after the draft.

Nope. A billion dollar company can’t concentrate on 2 things at the same time.
